Daryl's POV

We saw the hospital. It looked rough. Like somebody had bombed it. I cant believe Beth is trapped in this place. We parked the car in the woods out of view of any guards that might be on patrol. Where would Beth be? "Now we're here, how are we gonna find her? We can't just walk in there." As much as I wanted to go in there with guns blazing and just let 'em all have it,I knew Carol was right. "I'll think of something."

Beth's POV

It was finally time to make our escape. The plan was working exactly how it should, and we didn't run into any policemen on the way to the shaft. We got there and I saw a deep, deep drop. I guess I should've known it was wasnt a working elevator but I hadn't thought about having to jump down a 3 story elevator shaft.

"So how are we gonna get down there?" I asked quietly.

Noah looked at me and answered "Well I could tie a rope to you and ease you down." "Um....." I wasn't thrilled about this at all because I'm terrified of heights but I have to find Daryl. "Okay. Let's do this"

So Noah tied the rope around my waist as tight as I could bear and I walked over to the edge of the dark shaft. I held on to the ledge and dangled my legs over the side. I was freaking out. "Okay you can start dropping me now! I whispered nervously.

" Alright I'm gonna make it as slow as possible."

I started dropping a foot at a time and when I finally reached the bottom, I untied the knot around my waist.Noah tied the rope to a nearby pole and started his dissent as well. It took some time but we both made it down without drawing suspicion to ourselves.  It was so dark we could barely see our hands in front of our faces. A flashlight would've been helpful right now. Well too late now... "You don't have a flash light on you by any chance do you?"

"Actually, I do." He pulled out a small pocket flash light and turned it on. I was grateful he brought one because I was too focused on getting the key and a weapon that I didn't even think about bringing one.

"Good. So have you been down here before?"

"Once. I got this far trying to escape last time."

"And what happened? How did they catch you?"

"I tried this in daylight and they saw me running. I was so close."

" Well that aren't gonna catch us this time."

I was going to make sure of that. We both deserve to leave this place and find the people we love.

There was a silence. We found the door leading outside and I cracked it open to see if anyone was there. All I saw was a walker filled parking lot and a chain link fence that was separating  Noah and I from freedom.

"Okay. Since I'm the only one that has a gun you should run and I'll cover you."

He looked at me and then said "You don't think you can take out 10 walkers by yourself do you?" I was a little hurt at that comment but I can totally see where he was coming from. Before, I could barely kill one walker. But Daryl helped me and taught how to defend myself.I was still on my own, but I knew I could do it. I had to.

"Got 10 bullets. " I replied. "Once I fire that first shot you need to run as fast as you can because the guards are gonna start coming after us." I could tell Noah was hesitant about this and he said,"What if I get out and you don't?"

"You run. Don't worry about me. I'll get out. Worst-case scenario you leave, get help, and come back for me. Daryl, the guy who is hopefully still out looking for me, carries a crossbow. If  you run into him somehow, tell him you know me. He'll help you."

He looked at me seriously for a moment and said "They were really wrong about you. You are the strongest person I've ever met. Let's do this." I thanked him and silently walked out the door,Noah walking behind me.

We tried to be as quiet as possible to not alert the walkers around us. It was working fine until Noah got to the fences and got a little too close to one of the walkers. It snarled and started following him.  He didn't see it come up behind him so I had no other choice but to fire my first shot. I aimed and successfully killed the walker but unfortunately the sound made all of the other ones turn to me.

It was too late to turn back now. I kept pulling the trigger, and killing any walkers that got too close. I had 3 bullets left, and 3 more monsters to deal with. At this time Noah had already crossed the other side of the fence, and was waiting for me. I was distracted looking at him and a walker came at me from my right side and it knocked me down. I shot it in the head, still laying on my back on the ground when the second one was closing in on me.

I missed my first shot but got it the next try.  I stood back up and didn't bother with the last one because it's foot was stuck on something near police cars.

As I was making my way toward the fence I felt an elbow wrap around my neck  and a hand cover my mouth. Paralyzed with fear, I saw the same creepy cop staring at me. He took my gun and threw it a couple feet away and started pulling me back toward the hospital. There was no way in hell I was going back to that place. I started kicking, screaming, anything I could do to get him to loosen his hold on me. Nothing seemed to be working until I bit his hand as hard as I could. He let go of me and yelled, "Oh now you wanna play?Come on girl let's play." That's when I saw Noah's scared eyes looking at me and I mouthed "Go" to him. He shook his head and shook mine in response and signaled silently again for him to leave. There was no reason for him to be taken back too.

Daryl's POV

I was tired of thinking about what I was gonna do. I was gonna scope out the fences leading to the entrance of the hospital. Carol followed behind me and we quietly started walking to the gate. We hadn't taken more than 10 steps when I saw a boy running at me with his hands up. He got closer to me and I saw he was unarmed. He looked at me,and then to my crossbow and then asked panting, "Are you, Daryl?"

"Yeah."

" Beth... Shes still in the fences... She needs help!"

I didn't even hear anything after fences. I ran and as was getting closer a heard a scream. A scream that I would know anywhere. "DON'T TOUCH ME YOU CREEP!" That got me going as fast as I could go. I was this close to getting her back.

Beth's POV

The cop, Gorman  was getting close to me and started pulling on the hem of my shirt and my survival instincts kicked in. I punched him in the face and tried to run for the fence but he tripped me.I stumbled to the ground and fell. That didn't help my already sprained ankle.

"You're not goin anywhere sweetheart.Like I said before, those scrubs are too ugly for your pretty face. I can take care of that for you." I quickly crawled towards my gun so I could  shoot him. I pulled it out quickly and pulled the trigger but all I heard was a faint clicking noise. I was confused. Why didn't I kill him? That's when I realized, I was out of bullets.
