[-st? Host?]
'An irritating buzz moved close to my ear.'
The boy opened his eyes. Everything was bright and blurry and far too much to be looking at right after waking up. He shifted to his side and shut his eyes once again.
[HOST! THIS IS NO TIME TO BE SLEEPING!]
'The annoying buzz again.'
[I AM YOUR SYSTEM AND I DEMAND YOU GET UP NOW!]
'What kind of system makes demands to its host?' The boy sat up slowly. He opens his eyes once more. The lights were not as bright as they first appeared. His surroundings were actually quite dark, a pitch black void, empty save for the glowing screen in front of him.
[Actually host the projection you see in front of you isn't a screen it's a flat image conjured in the air through-]
The boy tunes out the child-like, almost mechanic voice that read out the long messages on the screen before him. He chooses to examine at the displayed options surrounding the message.
[Rude! as I was saying this is not a screen-]
The boy ignores the 'System' once again. He expands the screen, and watches as the glowing blue projection stretches. He pushes random buttons-
[STO- HAHAHA- STOP THAT! IT TICKLES!] The message appears on a small screen separate from the main projection he was toying with.
The boy pays no mind to the pleas of the System. While it looks as if the boy wishes to torment the poor screen, he carefully checks each purpose of the buttons he presses. He does this swiftly, hitting one button and then the next, repeating the process for a few minutes until all the features were easily memorable. To the System's relief, the boy puts his hands down and begins a slower exploration of the more specialized tabs and buttons.
[...]
Silence fills the void as the boy continues his review of the functions.
[Host... aren't you too relaxed for such an odd situation?] The system's voice is hesitant and almost nervous.
The boy sighs audibly this time and glances at the smaller screen beside him. "Doesn't this make your job easier?"
[Please wait for a moment... the System is loading their reply...] Appears on the smaller screen.
'This System is obviously slow and dimwitted unlike those in the novels,' the boy thinks.
[HEY! I'LL HAVE YOU KNOW THAT THE SYSTEM MAY ONLY LEVEL UP ALONGSIDE ITS HOST'S PROGRESS!] The originally blue glow turns red around the edges, before turning back to its initial translucent cyan color.
The boy grins after successfully taunting the newbie System.
"I suppose you have useful information after all."
[Hmph! What an annoying host!]
'I could say the same about you.' The boy smiles dryly.
[I CAN HEAR MENTAL PROJECTION IF IT'S TOO LOUD AS WELL HOST!] The System cries aggrieved.
"I guessed as much after the first few times little buzz."
[Grrrrr! You- *message has been redacted due to breach in Terms of Service*]
"Terms of Service? Interesting." The boy snorts. He turns back to the main screen and continues scrolling through the tabs. A new message appears.
[Display Terms of Service?]
Two buttons appear under the question.
[Yes.] [No.]
The boy presses the left option immediately. The screen expands and automatically displays paragraphs of text.

The boy reads through each tab, scanning the information and taking it in. After much thought, he agrees to the contract. The screen glows white and dissipates. Another pops up, this time with a bar he could type into. It requests his name.
[ Name: ______ ]
"My name is Evan Wilson." The boy, Evan, states.
A pop and the bar is gone. A new screen appears displaying a message.
[ Congratulations! You are now bound and registered to System 100! As the 100th pair special rewards will be granted within 24 hours! ]
The System who had been quiet during his reading of the Terms of Service brightens its small screen.
[ Host! We'll be transferred rewards soon! ] It cheers, glowing even brighter.
"We'll see..."
