[ -ost! The World Transfer has been completed! ] A familiar annoying buzz called out. Evan ignored the outraged cries of the System, in favor of adjusting to his new surroundings. It was no wonder that World Transfers were done while the "Host" was asleep.

Of course, Evan didn't know how the transfer worked exactly, but it certainly left him disoriented enough to give the boy a headache (if it hurts just a little too much for a normal person to ignore, no one really needs to know). The moment his eyes closed, he felt as if the world had disappeared from beneath him, and all that was left was a void. He was falling. It was quick, Evan was almost certain that within seconds his body would hit the ground, broken and lifeless.

Even during the transfer, there was no light, and time seemed to move differently. It felt so quick and yet so excruciatingly long. He was certain he'd been falling for hours, even when his body didn't seem to agree. And yet when the feeling of descent ceased, it felt as if the fall had only taken mere seconds.

Something to remember, he supposes.

But right now, he had a clear objective.

As if sensing his discomfort, the System's ranting dies down, and Evan is finally able to listen.

"-and you're certain the Young Master will be fine?" The voice, probably of a young man around his age, asked.

Evan could hear the rustle of clothe and paper. Brief shuffling. He observes in silence; keeping his breathing even and his eyes closed (feigning sleep, or perhaps unconsciousness given the stranger's question).

"Although he won't reach full recovery immediately, nothing seems out of place in his healing process and the first healers onsite were quick about it, if lacking some experience." A serious-sounding man replied.

There was a pause before the serious man spoke again.

"I cannot guarantee the Leazare family that he comes out of this unscathed, but once the boy is awake I shall examine him further."

"Thank you, Dr. Cesaire. The Duke wishes to see you."

The Duke. Evangelos Leazare's father.

'My father now, I suppose,' Evan thinks in the (not so) privacy of his mind.

There's more shuffling and muted footsteps. Probably a carpeted floor then, he deduces. A door opens and closes lightly, and he hears the quiet footsteps turn quieter as the two men walk further away from the room.

Slowly, he opens his eyes.

The light is soft, it comes from the large windows on either side of his bed that was of equally large proportion. The bed is soft, he hadn't noticed that before. He was almost tempted to fall asleep again.

[ Host! A mission objective has been sent! ]

Ah. How annoying. Send me the details. The System huffs but obliges anyway.

[ Mission Objective: A New World, A New Me! Meet the Duke and his family. ]

Of course. The Duke sees me as nothing more than a nuisance (he isn't wrong of course). In the original storyline, Evan was the illegitimate son of the Duke. Although the Duke hadn't bore any dislike towards the child after bringing him into the duchy, he never had any interest or particular affection for his son either. The Duke had two other children, both legitimate and born after Evan, whom he treasured.

He never outright stated anything or made any grand gestures to showcase his affection for them, but in the book, Evan was said to live in an entirely separate wing from the the Duke and his family. This caused a lot of rumors about how the Duke viewed his eldest son, which allowed plenty of nobles to mock Evan, treating him as a bastard son. Many readers found this deserved due to Evan's later actions in the story, and others sympathized with the villain.

The current Evan had no particular opinion.

He remembered going through so many painstaking details to edit this story for his sister. He personally found the plot too lacking and filled with holes and cliches; but he didn't mind getting to read something new and do something nice for his older sister once in a while.

Moving on, the reason he was annoyed was because of a particular character he had to meet for the mission. Niklaus Leazare. His younger brother, as well as one of the female lead's love interests.

In all of the endings he and his sister had drafted, Niklaus was a common catalyst for Evan's doom, be it exile or execution.

Of course the first objective just had to be one of the death flags.

Evan sighed. He'd get up after a few more seconds on the bed.
