final period rolled around, and you were huddled in the back row of the classroom with your best friend, subtly taking a nap.

"everyone get into pairs with someone you haven't done group work with before. i'll be making sure you're not simply teaming up with friends, so grab a partner and come to my desk to receive a topic for your research." your teacher instructed.

"i call dibs on l/n!" hinata stated, causing you to stir awake.

"what class is this again?" you asked.

"what? no, i want to team with her." kageyama argued. "and we're in biology class right now l/n."

"you two can fuck off, i'll be her partner." tsukishima interjected.

you scoffed. "you really enjoy bullying me that much?"

"wait, moonie doesn't have a partner! i'll be moonie's partner!" hinata beamed.

"you better not be trying to steal my best friend just because she's cool." you warned him.

"y/n, sweetie, you know there's no one cooler than you in my eyes." moonie smiled.

"bae, you're dripping in swag from head to toe i'm always worried someone's trying to take you away." you grumbled, and the two of you laughed.

kageyama and tsukishima decided to do rock, paper, scissors in order to decide which one of them would have to find a different partner.

kageyama won 2 out of 3 rounds and so, claimed you as his partner. tsukishima scowled and almost asked the teacher if he could do the project alone before you stopped him and introduced him to an acquaintance who wouldn't slack off while working and the pairs were set.

"kageyama and l/n, you two will be doing your presentation on the reproductive system." your teacher announced, ticking off yet another topic that was given to his students.

"tell me you're kidding." you sighed.

"show some enthusiasm l/n." your teacher lectured.

"i mean, oh goodie! i cant wait to present it, sir! i'll make sure to include many images in the presentation for any visual learners!" you exclaimed with false interest and he didn't even bother getting offended, seeing as your biology grade was doing okay despite how much you slacked off.

"want to do the project at my house after school?" kageyama offered, and you nodded.

"i'll meet you at the school gate after i get my stuff from my locker." you responded and the two of you parted ways.

"you're really okay with studying in your room? you don't have anything to hide?" you asked, surprised.

"what would i have to hide?"

"...your porn stash maybe?"

"why would i have a— actually never mind a lot of people do have one. unfortunately for your horny ass, i don't have any porn up there so sit your ass down and lets do this stupid project." kageyama declared, pointing you toward his room and disappearing saying he'd be back with some fizzy drinks and snacks.

despite not being the brightest kid in class, kageyama was diligent and at least tried to stay focused on the project for the first hour.

after that, neither of you got much work done, and you ended up just getting a tour of his room which was oddly tidy and well organised contrary to your expectations.

"aww, you were in a play?" you asked, pointing to a picture on his wall. it was getting dark outside, and you should have been on your way home but a particular photograph caught your attention.

he nodded absentmindedly. "i was the moon, because i kept messing up any dialogue so i was told to stay in a corner and just spin."

"they really wanted to make sure the play ran smoothly huh?" you chuckled.

"yeah but it didn't work. on the day, i got too enthusiastic and spun too fast, became dizzy and crashed into the sun on the other side of the stage."

you laughed aloud upon hearing this. "at least it's a funny memory."

you heard a door close shut in the distance and a feminine voice rang clear. "tobio, i'm home."

"that's miwa, my sister." kageyama explained. "give me a second."

he left the room to greet his sister and took the grocery bags from her hands, helping her put everything where it belonged.

"uh, i could help too if you tell me where to put stuff." you offered, walking towards their living room.

"holy shit you scared me! tobio, you didn't tell me you had friends over." she scolded. "hey there, i'm this loser's older sister, kageyama miwa. it's nice to meet you."

you mirrored her smile. "i'm l/n y/n, i'm just here to work on a biology project with him."

"will you stay for dinner? tobio can make some killer food." she bragged on behalf of her brother.

"i'd love to, but my friend is expecting me at home soon so i wouldn't want to worry her." you said politely. "thank you for the offer, though."

"don't worry about it. tobio, walk her home would you? it's getting dark real fast." miwa told her brother and he nodded, grabbing a jacket from his room and bringing you your bag on his way out.

"let's go?" he offered.

"yeah, sure." you smiled, and left his apartment with him.

"thanks for walking me back, kageyama." you smiled.

"no problem l/n. i'll see you at school tomorrow."

"wait, get home safe. don't get mugged or anything." you requested.

"well there's not much i can do if someone decides to attack me, but i'll be alright." he shrugged. "why, are you worried?"

"of course i am. facetime me the entire way home so i know you're okay." you ordered, pulling out your phone.

"okay, okay. if that helps you feel better." he chuckled, and your phone buzzed with an incoming facetime from kageyama as he walked away.
