Sam sat at the dining room table, finishing the longer part of his homework, when a knock sounded at the door. He sighed and moved to answer the door. Trevor stood in front of him, coat and all, giving him a winning smile. He looked Sam up and down and rose an eyebrow. Sam's pajama shirt hung loose on his shoulders and the ends of his pants dragged on the floor.
"Are you in your pajamas?" Trevor asked.
Sam crossed his arms over his chest to try and protect himself from the cold outside. "Is that going to be an issue?"
Trevor shrugged. "They just look a bit big on you."
Samuel scrunched his face in confusion. "You saw me in them the other night!"
Trevor cringed. "I know, but these ones look...bigger."
"They're comfortable for me, Trevor. That's all it is." Samuel glanced around, and gestured behind him. "Do you want to come inside?" he asked.
Trevor shook his head. "I want you to meet my new friends. They were planning to wait for you at Bayview Park."
"Trevor! I'm already in my pajamas and you want me to frolic in the park?!"
Trevor rubbed the back of his neck as Samuel continued. "Not to mention, it's dark out. Why do you expect me to go out in the dark, in my pajamas, just to go see your friends. You know you can introduce them tomorrow, right?"
Trevor went quiet.
"You're silence speaks for itself,"Samuel said. "Go home, and go to bed. I'll be able to meet them tomorrow morning."
Trevor did as he was told, and Samuel shut the door to save himself the trouble of his mother yelling at him to shut it.
Te next morning, Samuel was better dressed, in a familiar yellow vest over a white dress shirt with a blue necktie, and the look was completed with his glasses. He and Trevor met up at the same corner, and Samuel followed the other boy to the school.
When they arrived, Trevor introduced Sam to his three new friends; Peter, Kyle, and Joseph.
"I told you about these guys on Saturday, but here they are in person," Trevor said.
Samuel nodded and they all took turns talking with Sam about his interactions with Trevor. A few jokes were thrown around, and Samuel was nearly sent to tears.
Trevor watched from the sidelines as two of his friends talked and jokes with Sam, but he caught Joseph's eye. Joseph walked over to watch Sam with Trevor. "You like that kid, don't you?" he asked.
Trevor sighed. "I've...given it some thought," he admitted.
Joseph chuckled. "I'm seeing the way you look at him, and I can tell there's some attraction there."
Trevor shook his head. "I just...when he compliments me for any reason, he says them so casually, it drives me crazy!"
Joseph grinned at his friend as Trevor continued. "But I've also thought about my relationship with you and how you and your dad--"
Joseph held up his hand to stop Trevor from talking "Look. That is my lifestyle. This, " he gestured to Sam, still with Peter and Kyle, "is yours, and you are my friend."
Trevor gave Joseph a shy grin. "Thanks, Joseph. You're the best."
Joseph patted him on the back as the bell rang to go to class.
Later that day, Samuel walked into the room to find Trevor already there, at the table. He sucked in a deep breath, and swallowed his pride before he approached the table. He dropped his stuff beside the table, causing Trevor to jump a little, and shoved himself beside Trevor. "Okay!" he sighed. "We're doing some more Science today to get those leftover assignments done and over with."
