Ever since Reki was young he'd felt like he'd been missing something, or rather someone. The boy was tormented by dreams of gruesome images and soaring through buildings and tree tops.
His parents and physiatrists had always told him he just had a rather huge imagination but it all felt too real to just be a figment he'd created in his mind.
And one day it happened, he remembered a name...along with a face, whom he now dreamt of every single night.
Reki was always horrified when he woke up, the image of a calm young boy pushing him into a well as a huge blast wiped out everything in its path. Screaming the foreign name of a boy whom he'd never met before...and tonight was unfortunately one of those nights.
"LANGAAA!!" Reki shot upright out of bed, drenched in a cold sweat with tears streaming down his cheeks. He felt the pit of his stomach churning and his head pounding as he desperately tried to grasp onto any new things he may have seen in that dream. But no, it was the same as most nights.
Though they were not all like this. Reki knew he studied the ferocious creatures in his past life, along with that, it also seemed he was a mechanic of sorts. This explained his love for building skate boards and tinkering with things.
"Reki?" He heard his mother bang on the door, her voice laced with exhaustion and concern. The red head turned to look at his clock. 4am on the dot. There was no way he'd be able to fall asleep again after that dream.
"I'm ok mom..." he muttered after taking a few deep breaths. "Sorry for waking you," he sniffled, trying to dry his tears as he made no effort to get out of his bed.
"Alright...we'll try to get back to sleep ok?" A hum was all she got in response as Reki laid back down, staring at his ceiling which was adorned with little glow in the dark stars.

It was safe to say that Reki did not end up falling back asleep and he was now in his third period class (waiting for it to begin) wishing lunch would come sooner.
"Did you hear? We're supposed to be getting a new kid, apparently he's a foreigner too!" He heard some of the girls squeal but paid no mind to it. What good was some foreigner gonna do for him.
Reki was snapped out of his thoughts as the teachers loud voice boomed announcements to the class. The red head just stared out the window, pure boredom taking over as he drowned out the mans voice.
"...ga please introduce yourself to the class," the teacher said. So the new kid is finally here? Reki thought so himself as he finally peeled his eyes away.
Reki froze. He stared wide eyed at the boy infront of him. The familiar blue hair and teal eyes, the neutral expression that he'd come to love in his dreams. He didn't even realize the hot tears streaming down his pink cheeks.
"I'm Hasegawa Langa.." "anything else?" The teacher pushed. "Uhh I'm from Cana- Reki...?"
"Oh do you two know each oth-" the teacher began but stopped when his eyes landed on the mess in front of him. Every single set of eyes were on Reki, the boy couldn't move or speak. Every single memory came rushing back to him.
Images of Langa and himself grooming horses together, images of them in training camp and learning how to use what he now recognized was called odm gear. Their first expedition and their last...Langa's death...
The two had their eyes locked, it was like there was no one else in the class but in reality their audience was very big.
"L-Langa..!" Reki choked out in sobs and sprung out of his desk, running up to Langa and latching his arms around his neck.
Langa stuffed his face in Reki's neck, letting out shaky breaths. "Uhm...why don't you two step out into the hall.." their teacher rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly and Langa just nodded, dragging the younger out with him.
Once they didn't have eyes burning into the backs of their heads anymore Langa finally opened his mouth.
"I never thought I'd see you again...I doubted you'd even remember..." he sniffled as a few stray tears ran down his cheeks. "How could I forget when you were all I was fighting for!" Reki tried to laugh through his sobs and wiped the tears off of Langa's cheeks.
"Reki...I never got to tell you but...i love you so much...not one day went by that i didn't think about you.." he cried into his neck softly. "I love you too Langa," the red head giggled. "And don't worry, I'm not going anywhere, neither of us are," he smiled softly.
"Yea.." Langa hummed, calming down. "We finally get to be together...forever.."
(This was originally the plot for a jeanco book but since I don't have any aot books up at the moment I just decided to make it an au, enjoy :))
