~3rd Person POV~
A gentle breeze floated through a sunset-painted sky, ruffling crimson feathers and crystal white hair. Young Keigo Takami and Touya Todoroki sat staring off into the watercolor heavens, barely acknowledging their intertwined fingers. The peaceful silence was broken with a sigh from Keigo.
"Touya?" The blonde said in a calm tone.
"Hmm?" Was all that was heard as a reply from the young Todroki as he continued to sketch the beautiful sunset.
"Have you ever wondered what it would be like to just live like this all the time? Always relaxed and happy." Keigo gently pushed his blonde hair back with a sigh. "Becoming a hero is just so stressful sometimes. I feel like the only escape is what little time we have together." He concluded his thought by casting a glance at his best friend.
Touya looked up from his drawing and gazed at his simply stunning best friend as Keigo continued to enjoy the sunset. Touya placed down his sketchbook and pencil, shifting closer to the red-winged boy. His cold blue eyes were met with Keigo's warm golden ones. They seemed to stare deep into each other's souls, cherishing the moment for as long as possible.
Touya's breath hitched. "Kei?" He said with a slightly nervous tone.
"Yeah?" He replied while scooting himself as close as he possibly could get to the other.
Touya shifted his gaze towards the ground before speaking again. "I just wanted to let you know, you are the best friend I have ever had. Thank you for always being there for me." He took a deep breath and looked back up at Keigo, his eyes sparkling as brightly as ever. "I-I wanted to let you know that I love you." He said with a bit of a stutter.
Tears started to form in the eyes of the blonde as he pulled Touya into a hug. He placed his head on the white-haired boy's shoulder and sighed in contentment. "I love you too Touya." He then lifted his head and smiled at the boy with a look of true happiness before pulling him into a gentle kiss. Their lips met softly and sweetly. It was filled with passion, yet lacked the lust of a physical relationship. It was perfect for them.
They reluctantly pulled away smiling. The blush that had overtaken both of their faces went unnoticed as the two teenagers snuggled up together underneath the emerging stars.
~The Next Morning~
Keigo's POV
As my alarm rang out its usual annoying wake-up call, I hopped out of bed and stretched out my wings, letting my mind fill with the happy memories of the night prior. Feeling more energetic than normal, I practically skipped to the bathroom.
After brushing my teeth and a little bit of over-enthusiastic mirror karaoke, I walked over to my desk and flopped down in my chair. That's when I noticed something out of the ordinary. My window was slightly opened and a small letter was laying on the window sill. I walked over and picked up the letter, reading the outside. To Keigo, Please read soon.
Strange, I thought to myself as I slowly opened the letter. I felt my heart drop as I read the words that were sloppily scrawled on the tear-stained page.
Dear Keigo,
I wanted you to get this news from me, not from someone who doesn't fully understand my situation. Everyone thinks I am dead. If you don't believe me, it should be on the news by now. I am alive, but you can't give anyone this information. I had to run away because I just couldn't take it anymore. The stress of becoming a hero, like you mentioned yesterday. Except it's not only that. I am constantly worried about becoming too much like my father. If you could even call him that. So I ran away, so he cannot hurt me anymore. I don't want my so-called 'death' to put you down. All of the dreams we had of becoming heroes together and showing the world how heroes are supposed to be are not dead. You never needed me to achieve your goals. You are just as strong without me. All I ask of you is that you don't tell anyone of this, remember me, and move on with your life. Don't let me hold you back. I love you and I will come back for you when the time comes. So for now, become the hero that will change the world. So that all over the walls and billboards of the cities there will no longer be pain and suffering, but painted feathers. Painted feathers that symbolize peace and justice and most importantly, love. I will paint your crimson feathers wherever I go, to remind me of you. I will come back to you Keigo.
With all the love in the world,
Touya Todoroki
~Third Person POV~
Keigo let out a large sob as he fell to the floor. He wrapped his beautiful wings around himself like a cocoon. For hours, he stayed like that. Sitting on his bedroom floor hugging himself, adding tears of his own to the piece of paper that held Touya's letter. His tears further smudging the dark ink that Touya's had begun to destroy while the letter was written.
