In the beginning of time a Gerudo male named Ganon was born. And many years later the sages imprisoned him .... or tried to at least. They have failed many times before. Ganon has been trying to take over Hyrule, as for he has the tri-force of power.
The Sages failed sending him to the dark realm, so they banished him through time, stuck in time for all eternity. At least they thought. when one of the time gates got damaged, he was free to go to whichever era he wanted to and brought darkness to the world all over again.
