What is Maladaptive Daydreaming? My definition on Maladaptive Daydreaming, how I understand it, is a way for someone to escape mentally from overwhelming stress, difficult situations, or trauma through daydreaming. Usually you are alone and triggered with something that helps blind your surroundings of reality (music is a common trigger) and you would pace or have full-on conversations with yourself. It's not like how people talk to themselves in the showers, we can visualize for hours that we are having a tea party with our favorite celebrity.
Quickly, I wish to point out a few things. One, people with Maladaptive Daydreaming are not "insane" but rather individuals who do this as a way to calm down or feel safe. Two, it's a disorder. Three, if you find this weird or crazy that people do this then please don't say anything. As much as I understand opinions, people on the internet are sensitive.
Now that's out of the way, here is the internet definition:
Maladaptive daydreaming is a psychiatric condition. This condition causes intense daydreaming that distracts a person from their real life. Many times, real-life events trigger day dreams. This disorder is not part of the new edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V). It doesn't have any official treatment. But some experts say it is a real disorder that can have real effects on a person's daily life.
