~ Chapter 9 ~

I was pulled out of my bed by two huge hands.

Before I could scream out, one of those hands covered my mouth while the other wrapped around me so I couldn’t move my arms.

I was struggling with all of my might, but my strength was nothing compared to his. He dragged my struggling body to the upper deck.

My eyes widened.

Broadside our ship was The Retribution. My eyes scanned our ship and I saw a bloody Charles trying to get up.

I was just pulled onto the other ship when my eyes connected with Charles’ and I heard him scream my name.

He was holding his side, broken ribs probably, and he couldn’t move well. His panicked face was the last thing I saw before I saw black.

Why does this keep happening to me?

Charles’ P.O.V.

I brought my hand up to my throbbing head but then flinched when I touched it. Damn. I pulled my hand away and my eyes widened when my hand came back covered in blood.

What’s going on? I thought.

My thoughts were answered when I saw Aria being brought onto The Retribution by a man. I squinted my eyes and then realized that the man taking her was one of my crew members. The pirate with the eyepatch!

“Aria!” I yelled as I tried to get up, but I was stopped short by a pain in my side.

I looked back up to see Aria being brought under the deck, obviously unconscious.

“No!” I yelled, gripping my side.

The Retribution turned and headed back to a rocky island.

“No,” I said quietly, and then I blacked out.

Aria’s P.O.V.

I woke up shortly after being knocked out, but it was still dark. My hands groped the walls beside me until my hands stopped and grabbed onto metal bars.

“Where am I?” I thought out loud.

“You’re in a dungeon, love,” said a voice.

I backed up from the metal bars in surprise. A lamp was lit by the voice and I could barely make out his features. His hair was in long, blond dreadlocks and his skin was a dark tan. He looked young, but his eyes led me to believe otherwise. They held so much memory and intelligence that is was incredibly intimidating.

“My name is Cap’n Thomas Rodgers,” he told me. “And you, my dear, are bait.”

“Bait for what?” I asked cautiously.

“For your cap’n, o’ course,” he said factually. “No ship crosses my waters and survives.” He smiled. A sickly, horrible smile.

I glared at him with all the hate I could muster. “Why didn’t you just take him when our ships were broadside?” I asked. “Wouldn’t that have saved you all of this trouble?”

He chuckled. “But tha’ is no fun, love. See, I want his crew to add to mine. The only way to gain ‘nother pirate’s crew is to ‘ave the cap’n hung. So we are goin’ to play a lit’le game of cat an’ mouse.”

“That doesn’t make any sense,” I said.

Why not, love? I’m makin’ ‘im come to us. His crew is goin’ to see ‘im fail, an’ then they will ‘ave to come with me. Plus, your cap’n stole something from me a little while back when he was just a boy.”

He held up his leg. Instead of seeing a foot at the end, there was a peg.

“You just want revenge,” I said quietly, my eyes still on the peg.

“Yes, I do,” he snarled. “Just wait, love, if you survive this, you can be part of my crew too. Maybe just a lit’le more… intimate.”
