"I'm sorry the risk of pregnancy could be too much for your heart. As your doctor, I highly advise you to consider other options.."
"Come on, Hank. Don't give me that crap about surrogates or adoption."
"As a responsible cardiologist and your friend..." Hank knew he was already defeated before he could even start the battle. Talking sense to an obstinate woman like her was like trying to break down a brick wall with a fork.
"The best about having you as my doctor is that I know I got at least nine lives if I get a heart attack. You'll do your damned best to supervise my pregnancy." Liz was cocky enough to bet her money on it. She was totally ignoring the statistics albeit her profession as a nurse clearly makes her fully aware of the morbidity risks.
"Liz, I don't need to tell you how sick your heart is to stop you from your madness. Are you really that suicidal?" Hank stood up from his office chair to gain some authority and did enough to portray a facade of the stern unyielding doctor to shake some reason into her.
"I've done research, it's feasible. Please... we can do this..." She wanted him to help her succeed with her plans of pregnancy, but if he wasn't up for providing supervision she may have to consult another specialist.
"I'll talk to all of my friends across the state, no cardiologist will take your case." He was pulling his last shot of intimidation, but knowing her she would rather do without any help at all.
"If you're going to play dirty, you know I'm still going to do this with or without any help." Liz fired him with a look of defiance, her lips pressed tightly together with her signature frown.
"I'll give you a few weeks to think about the options..."
"No need. I already made a decision a few months ago. I just need to find the lucky candidate sperm donor." She let out a devious smile knowing that Hank was on board with her plans to have a safe course of pregnancy.
The ever reliable cardiologist friend, Hank, on the other hand wished she would never find a man crazy enough to go along with her schemes. He cringed at the thought that she would abase herself to sink that low into tricking some poor sap into a one-nightstand at a perfect timing with her ovulation and keep the baby all for herself.
"Seriously, you want to get pregnant but you don't have a boyfriend—yet." His determination to bring down her bravado was not ready to throw in the towel.
"Liz, there are sperm banks you know. Why not just pick one and pay a surrogate mother to do all the work for you? Perks would include you keeping your voluptuous figure in tact after nine months."
"This plan doesn't require a boyfriend. Hello?!?!" She was convinced that getting knocked up is as simple as putting on lipstick. A couple of strokes and you're done and pretty. The only challenge is picking up the right shade and texture of lipstick to match everything else.
