I stepped out of the room and walked up to the desk "hi honey how can I help you?" a lady said "I'm Maddie i'm Lola's best friend she went into chemo 2 hours ago I was just wondering if there was any news" I asked "Dr Manning told me about you and Lola, I'm Maggie" she said smiling "nice to meet you" I replied she looked down at the computer and clicked the mouse a few times "okay, so chemo can last anywhere between 2 and 5 hours but we don't have any updates that information is classified for anyone but Dr Rhodes and the hospital staff monitoring the room" Maggie said sighing, I put my hands down on the table and sighed "okay" Maggie saw I was worried "if you want to get a breath of fresh air there is a balcony upstairs were you can see Chicago" she said pointing to the elevator at the back of the hallway " it's 11:30 at night do you think it will be open" I questioned "this is a 24 hour hospital everything is always open" she said laughing "okay, let me grab my coat and i'll head up" I said smiling "okay honey" she smiled at me and laughed.

I walked out of the lift and up a few steps of stairs "Dr Rhodes we meet again" I said walking up to the edge of the balcony "hi, pretty sure patient aren't supposed to be up here" he said turning around "good thing i'm not a patient then isn't it" I said pulling my coat over my arm "touche" he said laughing "wow it's really pretty up here at night" I said looking over the view of Chicago "yea, it's my favorite place during the night" he said "I will bear that in mind" I said smirking he chuckled and turned around to look back at the city "why are you up here then" he asked kindly "waiting for Lola, the lady at the desk, Maggie, I think, told me that chemo can last anywhere between 2 to 5 hours and so i'm a little bit stressed but she'll be fine, i'm sure, it's just nerve racking waiting for it" I said he just nodded and looked at me "sorry i'm rambling" I said before sighing "no it's okay your just nervous it's understandable I would be to" He said before looking back over at the elevator "do you have to go" I asked, he looked back at me "no, I was just looking to see if this was still here" he said before walking over and grabbing something that I assumed was taped to the bottom of the steps

"what is that?" I yelled from across the roof "this is my journal" He said walking over to me "journal? You have a diary?" I said laughing "it's not a diary it is a medical journal" He said dismissing my comment "it's a diary" I said still trying not to laugh "do you want to know what's in it or not?" he replied laughing at me. I covered my mouth to stop me from my laughing "sorry continue" I said as I raised my hands in surrender "this is a medical journal" He said emphasizing the word journal "yup" I replied "it is from the first time that I had to tell a girl that her sister had just died" he said unfolding the page "why are you telling me this?" I asked "because Lola sounds like your sister and I think you might be interested" He said "okay, go on" I said "today, I had to tell a girl that her sister had died I walked into the room and sighed the girl looked at me almost knowingly because I hadn't returned with her sister she put her head in her hands and burst into tears I felt like I had betrayed someone and I smiled after that trying to find anyway to calm or comfort the girl" He said this and after that he closed the paper and looked back up at me "so, you felt bad" I asked "yea, I did but there was nothing I could do" he replied "what did you do after that?" I asked and looked up at him "you want what really happened" he asked me chuckling "yea, i'm invested now" I said not looking away "I went home and cried for almost 4 hours" he said looking back at the skyline "wow, I'm sorry" I said sympathetically "your sweet but there's nothing you can do, when you loose someone you loose them" he said "you think of it that blatantly" I asked him "yea, when your a doctor you kind of start to compartmentalize life and death" he said, I nodded "I'm going to head back inside I have to catch up with this whole WATALIE drama" I said "WATALIE?" he questioned "Will and Natalie keep up" I said laughing "how do you even know there first names?" he questioned tilting his head "I've been sat down stairs for over 2 and half hours, I'm invested now" I shrugged he chuckled and nodded "okay, I promise not to tell Nat and Will that you are spying on them" he called as I walked out of the balcony "goodbye" I said as I saluted him and walked of the balcony.
