You know those kind of monsters you see on TV, with big green bodies, drooling all over the place while eating innocent people? Or those little flying ones that always come in millions and bite the heroine wherever possible? Or those that hide in the shadows and come out of nowhere, decapitating her, so we never get to see how they really look like?
Well, this was nothing like that.
This monster was so pale I could almost see the moonlight through it. Fangs, sharper and shinier then the knifes my mother used in her commercial were elegantly sliding over it’s lower lip, ready to sink into my skin. It’s eyes really were red, a lot darker and animalistic than mine though, and they really were filled with lust. But this was never lust for my body, no, this lust was for my VEINS.
If you looked at this scene from the point where I was lying you would have came up with the same conclusion.
This monster, who was just a normal kidnapper a couple of minutes ago, now was nothing less than one really. hungry. vampire.
However, if you looked at it from the back, where the policeman was standing, you would have thought the same thing he did: stupid daddy’s boy molesting his naïve girlfriend.
- Hey, you! Step away from the girl, now! – He was already dragging his pistol out. Probably a rookie. Thinking that by saving an innocent teenage girl he’ll finally become a hero and get that recognition from his overweighed boss. Poor guy.
,,Daddy’s boy” turned around slowly. His face was changing back to normal.
- She just fell. Didn’t you sweetie?
His strong hand was reaching towards mine, helping me up and I looked at his eyes for just one second. They were seriously warning me. If I wanted to save this guy, I’ll have to play along.
- Yeah…I’m fine now, thanks.
The cops flashlight was blinding me so I couldn’t see if he bought it. For his sake, I hope he did.
After a couple of minutes of deadly stillness, the cop finally gave in. Apparently he didn’t see my tears.
- Well, okay, but you two should go home. It’s not safe here in the woods. Take care.
His voice sounded disappointed. He was hoping for his big moment. He didn’t get it. Turns out, he never will.
The guy behind me was gone in an instant. The next moment he was 10 meters away, jumping onto the police guys back, biting his neck. It all happened so fast I couldn’t even react. I couldn’t scream, I couldn’t move. Looks like I couldn’t even see. All I did was hear, hear his pleasure moans and his painful screams. Hear the dripping blood and the crunching of the gravel. It was over even before it started.
Then, silence.
It was so thick and hard, it started to choke me. I was gasping for air. My tears were falling to the dirt along with my helpless sobs.
Why?
It lasted for a couple more seconds. Then it was over.
He stepped out of the pool of blood he made, heading towards me. That’s it, its my turn now.
But then, he just passed by.
He didn’t kick me, or attack me from behind, or spit on me.
He just passed by.
-Go home was the only thing he said.
I couldn’t believe it.
When I looked up, he was already entering the car.
-No! I yelled. There’s no way I’m going back to that. Back to a little poor ,,family” who never understood me, back to watching my life past before my eyes, back to grey, back to nothing. There was no way in hell. If I did that, I would never be able to forget what happened tonight and to forgive myself for missing a chance. No way. -Take me with you.
We were both surprised by my request so much we just stood there for a while. Disbelief replaced sorrow in his eyes. Looks like he had a soul after all.
-What?!
- Take me with you. I wanna go, wherever you go. Just a couple of days, please. I can’t go back.
- No.
- Wait! If you don’t then I’ll…tell everyone what I saw, I’ll tell them what you are!
He couldn’t believe what I was saying as much as me.
- I could just kill you…
- No, you couldn’t.
I wasn’t so sure about that, but it was worth the shoot. The only thing worse than him actually doing it, is leaving me here.
Looks like he hesitated for a moment. He was actually thinking about this. Could he sense how much I wanted it?
- Why would you want to go on a trip with me? I killed two people since we meet. I tried to kill you too, remember?
He looked like he regretted all of that. - I’m a monster.
- I know but… I’m tired of waiting for my life to start, ok?! This was the most disgusting and the most amazing hour of my life! I can’t just forget about it! I need to go with you! I really NEED to go with you…
I was back at begging.
He opened the door and got into the car. When I thought he was gonna start it and drive away, he opened the passenger seat. I reconsidered it again, but not for enough time or thought to realize it was probably a mistake. I cleaned the dust of my skirt and ran to the car, getting in and closing the door.
- Sooo, where are we going?- I asked too cheerfully.
- Ok, here’s one basic rule for you: NO QUESTIONS. Clear?
- So you’re not gonna tell me?
- No.
- Ok.
He was starting his red BMW when I asked: Can I have just two questions, before we go?, causing him to drop the keys. He looked annoyed, but not in a too serious way.
- What?
- What’s you name?
-…Jack.
- I’m Anna.
- I don’t care.
- Alright, can I ask my other question?
- Ask already!
- Are you gonna eat me if I fall asleep?
-…I don’t know.
I don’t know. There was no better answer than that. The one I missed so much.
- That’s good enough for me.
I leaned my head against the window while tiredness was catching up. I closed my eyes not knowing what tomorrow brings, not even knowing will I live to see it.
My wish finally came true.
