The students arrived three days later, first years bustling with excitement and awe, older years running to greet their friends. There was an embarrassing moment when Harry had to stop himself from sitting at the Griffendor table out of habit. He glanced over at Malfoy to see him sniggering. Harry immediately flushed red and marched over to the teachers table as the students filed into the great hall. The sorting was just how Harry remembered. Seeing the mixture of excitement  and nerves on all their small faces reminded him all too well of his first years here. However Harry had an unsettling feeling throughout the whole meal he was being watched. But he expected it was simply a fan in one of the younger years determined to bore holes in his body with their eyes. But strangely throughout the meal Harry was unable to concentrate on the small talk of his fellow professors.  He kept thinking about Malfoy and his unpredictable behavior. Harry thought he should perhaps give up hope of ever being civil.

The sorting was uneventful. Draco thought it was a bit sad that this hat sat by itself for a whole year thinking of the lyrics to a song, then to be placed on nitty, disgusting first years heads to say what school house they were going to be in. But maybe he was overthinking it. He did remember there was a thrill to be sorted, but throughout the whole meal he was distracted.
1. By his terrible nerves. He suddenly had a terrible feeling teaching students for the first time the next day wasn't going to be as easy as he originally thought.
2. One word.Potter.
Potter. Potter. Potter. Who gave that git permission to live in his head rent free. Maybe he should just talk to him. Surely that would be better then staring daggers at the side Potter's head. Because when he did that he started to notice other things. Like the way his hair softly framed the side of his face, or how his eyes lit up when food magically appeared on the platters in front of him, or perhaps the the way his had slight bags under his eyes from the lack of sleep. Probably from the stress and nerves of first time teaching. Malfoy could relate to that first hand. However he also cared enough about his appearance to attempt to conceal his unattractive dark circles. A quality Potter did not possess. Well perhaps Potter simply preferred to look like a raccoon. Malfoy chuckled to himself and stood up with the other Professors in preparation to leave to main hall.
