Liam' P.O.V.
I really did not understand what was happening.
One moment I was driving down the highway, my mind following the song that was playing in the car, relaxed and focused, and a fucking minute later a fucking girl was jumping out in front of my fucking car.
This town was going to drive me crazy.
I did not know why I hadn't thought to stop earlier. I was in absolute shock, I was hoping that she would run out of my way or maybe someone would pull her out, something. But she didn't. She curled up into herself and she stood there. I hit the brakes so hard my chest hit the steering wheel.
The car came to a screeching halt. I had my eyes shut close, and I kept them shut too, for about half a minute after I felt the car stop. I did not know if I had hit the girl, I was waiting for a car to come crashing into me, I did not know what the fuck was going on.
Everything was still, and even before I could properly look about me, the passenger side door of the car flew open.
The girl pushed herself into the seat beside me and shut the door behind her.
"Drive!" she spoke, but her voice was so low, so pained, not more than a whisper.
I wouldn't have missed that voice, even in death.
Fuck.
There she was, Alex, in the car there with me, looking like roadkill, and slipping, slipping fast.
"What the fuck are you doing out here?!" she spoke up to me, grunting in between words, her hands flying around frantically, eyes wild, all of her features twisted in acute pain. I could tell that she was only half-conscious. There was no fucking way that it was her there, my brain refused to believe it, and yet, it was her, it couldn't be anyone else. She looked so angry, and so tired, I could see the thin sheen of sweat on her face, even in the dim light from outside.
My mouth open and shut of its own accord, once and two times. The silence between us was filled with low panting, she was really hurt, she was trying really hard to keep herself in check.
"Fucking drive!" she spoke again, but I was completely frozen in my place.
Alex then when ahead to face-palm herself.
Then I heard a loud bang somewhere close by, off of the side of the road.
Alex froze too, her eyes widening in panic as her gaze shifted to the darkness behind me.
When she told me to drive this time, I did. My foot smashed down onto the accelerator. The sudden momentum jerked the both of us backward, and Alex let out a small scream beside me. I turned around to look at her curling into herself and covering into the seat. Her limbs were visibly shivering. I was pushing the car into the forties within seconds. I knew that I had to get this girl far away from that place, that was my only priority in the moment.
So, we sped through the darkness. Alex sat beside me, breathing heavily, moving and adjusting herself in the place. I could tell that she was hurt, the way gasped when she moved into a certain position. The song on the radio had switched, some upbeat track filled in into the silence in between us, too stark, too happy.
"What the fuck," I spoke up when the song finally came to an end, "what the fuck is going on?"
My fingers were too tight on the steering wheel, my voice a couple of octaves too high.
She turned around in her seat and pushed one side of her shoulder away from the seat. I could feel her eyes, I could feel her gaze burning into the side of my head.
