I had patience with a lot of things.
I was patient when Carly asked me if I would be interested in going out with her for the sixth time in one week.
I was patient when a professor tried to lecture me on the values of kindness for an hour, and even nodded along pretending to listen.
And I was terrifyingly patient when it took Kevin twenty minutes to realize I was blackmailing him.
What I was not patient with was Pria snapping at my heels like a puppy demanding to know why I had not been to dinner the previous night and how coincidental it was that Cerelia had not been there either.
Apparently we were the only ones in our year who missed it. I had told her that I didn't know where her master had gone but I hadn't been with her.
Was it necessary to mention that she didn't believe me?
"I know you're lying!" she shouted at me form her end of the empty hallway. I was still walking but she had trouble keeping up with me when she wasn't nearly running.
"Prove it!" I yelled without turning around.
She seemed convinced that I had meant that as a challenge as she suddenly sprinted and slid in front of me, blocking my way. Her eyes were a plain brown, very much unlike Cecelia's own which seemed vibrant and alive. She squinted at me imitating an old lady glaring at some kids who had tossed a ball onto her porch.
"The two of you missed the same dinner on the same night-"
I cut her off. "This proves nothing Sherlock."
She continued. "Then I hear that she took a bath in the prefects bathroom that same night, and she doesn't just break rules, its your influence tha-"
"Someone stop her, she's such a scoundrel. Half the school uses the prefect's bathroom."
"Then I see the two of you together in the library- and you were leaning in!"
That time I actually laughed. She placed her hands on her hips and I side stepped right passed her. But she followed.
"You think I was trying to kiss her?" I asked, my voice laced with sarcasm.
"I think you're manipulating her."
I stopped and sighed before facing her once more. "She came looking for me. Even if I were interested in your yellow little tree hugger it wouldn't be something you need concern yourself with. Now get out of my face and go and try to convince someone else you're smart. Your father maybe? Oh wait." I turned my back on her. "He didn't care enough to stay."
Anyone could cut, but only some people could make you bleed.
She didn't follow as I walked away.

She was watching me again. I tried not to pay her any mind as I scribbled down some notes for the potion we were brewing. She wasn't making it very easy, and I wasn't the only one who noticed.
"She's watching you again." Alatar said in a sing song voice as he twirled passed me on his tiptoes before sprinkling something into the bubbling cauldron. I rolled my eyes and ignored him.
"When the longing looks first started," He placed a hand on his forehead to emphasize his point. "I thought they were for me." He slid onto the desk blocking Cecelia's view of me when she glanced up again. "But then the two of you disappear together." He flicked up a single finger to indicate the first thing on his list.
"Then Prudish Pria tells me you got goldy locks breaking the rules." A second finger. "And that you were staring into each other eyes in the library." At that I had to bite back a growl. I wondered whether telling him that he sounded just like prudish Pria would wipe the look off his face.
