"Come on." I whispered, pointlessly holding my hands over the house plant on my desk. After what happened with Helia, I'd come to realise that I was scared of my own magic. And if I didn't try to gain any control, then I'd never be able to use it, despite not wanting anything to do with magic in the first place. So here I was, spending my Saturday morning trying to make a flower grow.

After a few more minutes, it was clear that nothing was happening, so I just gave up. There was no point in continuing to sit here and make a fool out of myself if nothing was going to come of it.

"Hello, it's just me." Terra said, awkwardly stepping into my room. "I uh, I brought someone to help."

Just then, a girl with beautifully tanned skin and golden brown hair appeared from behind my door. She smiled. "Hi, I'm Flora."

"Kody, this is my cousin. She's here to help you with your magic." Terra explained.

"Well how's she gonna do that?" I asked, unconvinced by Terra's proposal.

"I'm an Earth fairy, like you." Flora started. "I'm a little more experienced than most of you here, so I figured that maybe I could help."

I sighed. "Fine, I guess we'll give it a try."

"The trees are so vibrant today, don't you think?" We were currently walking through the woods and Flora seemed to be very enthusiastic about the nature around us.

"Uh, I guess." I muttered, confused as to why she would think these gloomy trees could look vibrant.

She just laughed. "Oh yeah, I should probably explain. My magic allows me to feel what the trees are feeling."

"Yeah, okay." I scoffed. This was complete bullshit. No one could feel trees. That sort of stuff just didn't happen.

"I can see why you're sceptical, but it's true. And who knows, maybe you'll be able to do it someday."

"I'm only here to control my magic, not develop it."

"Why won't you use your magic?" She suddenly asked.

I sighed. "Because it's too dangerous. And anyway, even if I wanted to use magic I probably couldn't."

"Why?"

"Because ever since I got here, it just...stopped working."

"It's because you're scared to accept it as a part of yourself." She suddenly said.

"What?"

"If you don't accept your magic, you'll only end up suppressing it."

"Well I never wanted it in the first place. The only reason I'm trying to use it now is because of that stupid witch."

"Then why did you come to Alfea?" She asked.

"Because when I first got my magic, it was out of control, like it'd just switch on whenever it wanted. And I just wanted it to stop. So when Miss Dowling found me and offered me a place here, I took it, because I wanted to be able to control my magic so I could be normal again." I explained.

"Well you don't have to suppress your magic to be normal." She smiled. "Besides, magic can be fun. Watch."

She slowly raised her hands and then within seconds, leaves began to fall off the trees and dance in the air. And they were sparkling. "How is this fun?" I asked.

"Wow, you are nothing like my cousin are you?"

"Nope."

"All I'm saying is that having magic doesn't have to be a bad thing." She said, letting the leaves fall to the ground. "There's some pretty cool parts of it as well."

"Is this how you're supposed to help me?"

"I'm gonna teach you to accept your magic."

"What's that going to do?"

"Well, once you learn to embrace that side of yourself, you'll be able to control it."

I didn't believe any of that, but if there was the slightest chance that it would work, then I was willing to play along. I had to tap into my magic somehow.
