I could feel the frustration building inside me as I uselessly held my hands out towards the plant pot. Everyone else in this class had already moved onto more advanced stuff, and then there was me, still attempting to complete the first task ever given in this classroom. And I was still failing. I was trying to accept my magic like Flora said but I just couldn't, because then I'd be accepting myself as a fairy. And that was the last thing I wanted to be. I just wanted my old life back. It was simple and unproblematic. But as much as I wanted to be human and powerless, I didn't get that luxury, as I had to use my magic to defend myself against the psycho witch that was after me.

"Everything okay Kody?" Dowling questioned, now standing in front of my desk, a concerned expression on her face.

I sighed. "I'm trying to use my magic, but it won't work. I don't think I belong here."

"If you're having trouble, I could always give you after school sessions to improve your magic." Dowling suggested, a sympathetic smile on her face.

I know I already had Flora trying to help, but at this rate, I needed all the help I could get. I needed to have some power against Dahlia, otherwise I'd be screwed. "Okay." I said.

"Great, well I'll see you tomorrow in my office."

"Oh thank god, you're here." I said, breathing a sigh of relief as I stumbled into the greenhouse. I hadn't seen Sam in a while, so I decided it'd be a good idea to actually spend some time with him for once. He was my best friend. "I'm sorry we haven't hung out lately, it's just my life's been such a mess."

He just laughed as I clumsily sat down across from him. "It's fine. Besides, I've got something of my own to keep me busy."

"What?"

He smiled, leaning over the table to me. "I'm dating Musa." He whispered jokingly.

"You're dating my suitemate? How did I not know this?"

He laughed. "Maybe because you barely speak to any of the girls in that suite."

"Yeah, I suppose that's right." I said, before smiling. "But anyway, Musa?"

"Yep."

I just shook my head, laughing. "I didn't think this could ever happen, you having a girlfriend."

"Shut up." He laughed.

"Seriously though, I'm happy for you."

"Thanks. And I'm happy for you."

"Huh?"

"I heard about you and Riven."

"Oh, right. Well, thanks."

I felt my breath become shallow as I stood watching Helia from a distance. I was going to ask him if we could schedule training a little later since I was going to be doing after school classes with Dowling. But everytime I had to speak to him, I suddenly felt nervous. I didn't even know why. Maybe I was just stunned by how great he was. Not a lot of people in my life were like that. I took a deep breath, before walking over to him.

"Hey." I smiled, earning a smile from him too.

"Hey, how are you?"

"I'm good, how are you?"

"I'm good. You looking forward to training today?"

"Yeah, I am." I breathed. "About training...is there any chance we could have it at a later time after today? It's just, I have after school sessions with Dowling to work on my magic."

"Hang on, are you actually gonna start using your magic?"

I nodded. "Yeah, I think it's time I start accepting it."

"I'm so happy for you." He smiled. "But yeah, we can totally have later training sessions. Just drop by when you're done with Dowling tomorrow."

"Okay, great. Then I guess I'll see you later."

As I walked to Dowling's office, I felt a little uneasy. Today, I was finally going to be using my magic and after the things I'd learned about myself and my past, I was scared of what I might do. What if I managed to activate it and it got out of control? What if I hurt someone? I just didn't like how unpredictable it was. But I suppose I didn't really have a choice. If I wanted to defend myself against Dahlia, I had to use magic.

When I finally arrived at the office, I hesitated before opening the door. I really hated the idea of using my magic, but I had to do this. When I opened the door, Miss Dowling invited me in and asked me to sit down in front of her desk, which had a small potted plant sitting comfortably on top.

"So Kody." Dowling started, sitting down behind the desk. "What seems to be the problem with your magic? Why aren't you able to use it?"

"Why does it matter?"

"Well, if we can find out the reason your magic isn't working, then it can be dealt with."

"Well Flora said it's because I'm not willing to accept my magic." I told her.

She just smiled. "Okay, then we're going to start by focusing on acceptance."
