Ebony slipped out of her hammock. The night had been fun, the glader's had a bonfire in honor of her arrival and it had been a fun night full of dancing, singing, fighting, and drinking some of Gally's weird tasting drinks. It was fun. She had met most of the other glades and spent most of her night with Minho and Newt. Now all the boys were rather passed out or asleep. Not wanting to wake then Ebony slipped out through a small window as silent as a mouse. She wanted answers for herself.

"It isn't technically breaking a rule if you don't get caught." She mumbled to herself. She walked over to the wall making sure she wasn't being followed she began to climb. Though she didn't know it, she was being followed, Minho, Gally, and Newt had been up talking when they saw someone sneak out through a window in the homestead. It didn't take them long to realize it was Ebony sneaking out.

"Why are we watching? We need to stop her!" Newt demanded, Gally stopped him.

"We should see what she does." He said simply. Ebony continued to climb. Memories raising threw her mind some she understood some were just pieces to a puzzle she had yet to discover. Once at the top of the ivy she noticed that the wall in front of her was flat which meant no loose bricks, and no divots which also meant no way to climb that wall. Ebony groaned cursing under her breath she positioned her hand on the ivy and just as she was about to backflip when she heard whispering, she let out an annoyed grunt, listening carefully she dissected Newt and Minho voices along with the slight sound of Gally. Furry shots threw her, were they stalking her? Deciding this was not the best decision to do, the wall being watched she began to climb down. Once on the ground, she pretended to walk away from the boys but really she found a good spot to sneak up on them from behind.

"What was she doing?" Gally asked

"Yeah why go to all that trouble just to quit?" Minho questioned

"Maybe because she doesn't like being watched," Ebony said, glaring daggers at the boys as she leaned against the closest tree. All three of them jumped turning to face her.

"How did you know-"

"You were watching me? You were so loud I'm surprised you didn't wake the rest of the glade." She said with an eye roll,

"What were you doing?" Newt questioned, Ebony's eyes flashed mint fire sending silent shivers up all three boys' spines.

"Nothing important...so forget it." Her voice was venomous, no trace of humor or kindness, just pure venom. Gally and Minho nodded, Newt locked his eyes with Ebony for a long minute.

"Minho, Gally you two can go I think me and Ebony need to talk," Newt said, his eyes still locked with Ebony's. Minho and Gally nodded and walked away hesitantly.

"Am I in trouble?" She asked playfully, but Newt's expression stayed stern.

"What were you really doing?" He asked, Ebony instantly got defensive.

"It's none of your business!!" She snapped

"Well considering you just tried to sneak into the maze at night by yourself and not tell anyone. Yeah, it's my business." Newt started with a lifted eyebrow. Ebony let out a huff of fury and turned to walk away but Newt caught her wrist. She turned to face him fury In her eyes. Newt studied her face for a long minute in the slight light of the moon he caught sight of black letters tattooed by her collar bone. He was surprised he hadn't seen them before but studied the words.

"What's that?" He asked motioning to the tattoo. Fear shot through her, she had tried to hide the tattoo, she didn't know what it meant but considering the note and it had one thing in common she hid it. The Cheshire cat was her symbol in a way.

"What?" Ebony asked playing dum

"You know what," he stated his voice held an iron that would be intimidating, an iron that should be intimidating...but it wasn't and that made every inch of fear evaporate replaced with a sly grin on her lips, a grin that was almost like a poison in a way, so sweet and playful, but behind her eyes was a deadly fire. And Newt knew in that minute, he had just made the biggest mistake of his life. He had tried to threaten someone whose only weakness was something that had long been dead.

"No, I don't think I do." And with that, she walked away. She wasn't scared anymore, because she was the Cheshire cat, and Oh were the gladers doomed.
