Chapter five: His Circumstances.
I woke up, it was Saturday morning. I got out of bed and stretched, my body aching and protesting against the movements. I looked out my balcony door, looking across the way to Lucy's bedroom. I saw her still sleeping in her bed, her blond hair sprawled across her bed, she looked like a fallen angel.
I sighed and I got up slowly and made my way downstairs. "Hello sweetie how was your night?" my mom asked, sitting at the kitchen table, a glass of wine in her hand.
"It was good." I said, knowing that she really didn't care about my night.
"Oh that's good honey." She said and took another drink. "Do you want something to eat? I'll make you pancakes."
"No, I'm good." I said then left when I heard my father's footsteps on the stairs. I ran back into my bedroom and shut the door praying not to hear their screams. When I did I blasted my music on my radio. I put my hands to my ears just wanting everything to stop. I felt like I had when I was a child. I would stay in my room crying as I heard my parents scream at each other from below. I would sometime sit at the bottom of the stairs while they were fighting hoping that they would see me and stop. I wish they would have looked at me on the stairs and say I love you honey. Mommy and daddy love each other. Don't worry. It's just a small fight. But they never did.
I looked across the balcony, Lucy was up, and she was looking at me. She looked worried. I closed my eyes and tried to calm down. But I watched as she opened her door and stepped out into the cool morning air. She walked towards the ledge and jumped to my side and opened my door came straight towards me and hugged me. I stiffened at the touch but then I returned the embrace and cried silently in her arms, knowing that I could trust her. "Thanks." I muttered.
"It'll be okay." she promised and for some reason I believed her.
It felt like hours in her arms but I knew it was only minutes. I stepped away from her and smiled. "Thanks."
"No problem, I know how it feels." She said and shrugged her shoulders.
"Do you want to hang out today?" I asked, just wanting to be with her.
She smiled slightly and said "Sure."
I laughed and hugged her again, "Thanks."
"What for this time?"
"I don't know." I said and laughed.
"What are we going to do?" she asked.
"Beach."
"No! People will be there and I don't want to be seen with you." She protested.
That stung a little but I shrugged it off and said "Fine, what do you want to do?" I asked
"I don't know."
"Okay, how about this, we go to the beach but on the other side of town, no one goes there anymore."
"Isn't that like two hours away?" she asked.
"Yea, but it's not like we don't have any time." She nodded and started to walk away. "Where you going?" I asked confused.
"To get my swim stuff, my bathing suit isn't in here you know."
"Oh yea." I said and just stared after her.
Chapter Six: Her Circumstances
Lucy's POV:
I saw his face when I said I didn't want to be seen with him. The look it was hurt and confusion. I felt bad but what could I do? If he knew the reason why he would get it, I didn't want people to make fun of him for being with a loner like me. I hear what others say behind my back, it wasn't very nice. Walked about my room grabbing my stuff and shoving it into a bag, I stripped my clothes off and walked into the bathroom. I looked in the full length mirror. I was getting thinner. I looked at my face, the black circles under my eyes were growing more noticeable. I frowned. I put my bathing suit on, a simple black two-piece that wasn't to showy. I went back into my room and put on a pair of shorts and a tank top. I grabbed my bag and threw on a sweatshirt over my top.
