Iwaoi ~ until next time (angst)

Iwaizumi lay back on the grass, letting the slow, cool, summer wind brush past him, ruffling his clothes as he stared at the sunset. He watched the colours fade into eachother as you looked further up into the sky. On any normal day, he would smile and comment on how pretty it was, but this wasn't any normal day. Today was the last day before oikawa left for Brazil. And that meant not seeing him again. As much as he didn't like to admit it to him, he new that he would miss oikawa a lot. And being honest? He liked oikawa as more then a friend and had since second year but he left it too long and now it was too late.
'Should I tell him?' He thought as he chewed on his bottom lip. 'No I can't, I don't want to stop him from doing what he loves'
"Hey iwa? What's up, you seem sad" oikawa whispered from beside him, nudging him gently
"Have you forgotten that your leaving in less then 20 hours?" Iwaizumi answered back and oikawa sighed slightly.
"No, not that silly, I mean you look like your thinking really hard about something?" He questioned himself slowly.
"Uhh...it's nothing, don't worry about it" he replied and looked away quickly before looking back. Oikawa raised his eyebrow and propped himself up on one elbow, looking directly at iwa.
"No, it is something and it looks like it's bothering you. So come on, tell me" oikawa said, a small, comforting smile appearing in his face. Hajime blushed slightly and looked up at the sky, shaking his head. "Iwa~ I won't leave if you don't tell me"
"You won't leave if I DO tell you" he retorts quicker then he would have liked. Oikawa looked at him surprised and iwa just shook his head. "Look, i promise I'll tell you when you come back from Brazil ok?"
"Hmph. Fine" oikawa lay back down and they were silent for a few minutes before he spoke again. "Hey, do you remember that time when we were in middle school? And kageyama was there?"
Hajime nodded
"Well that one night when we were practicing, you remember how I tried to hit him right?" Iwaizumi grunted, remembering everything. "Well I never really got a chance to apologise. I mean I had LOADS of chances, but now I won't even see him again so I can't"
"What are you talking about? Isnt hinata going with you to Brazil?" Iwa asked
"Well yea, but that doesn't mean I'll get to see him." Oikawa replied and sighed, putting his hands behind his head.
"Don't worry I'm sure he's forgotten about it, it was like 4 years ago after all" hajime replied and oikawa grunted in response.
They stayed in a comfortable silence for another few minutes, staring at the fading light of the sky, before oikawa checked his watch and sighed, biting his lip to stop himself from crying. Iwaizumi saw this and turned his head to look at him.
"You ok?" He asked and oikawa shook his head, accidentally letting a few tears roll down his cheeks. "Wait, are you crying??"
"What, I can't help it! I leave in less then 20 hours. How can I not cry when I'm going to miss you so much???" Oikawa sniffled and Iwaizumis heart broke but he kept his composure.
"Don't be so sappy shittykawa, you're not gonna be gone forever" he replied. Oikawa sighed and wiped his eyes with the back of his hand before putting it back behind his head.
"Yea I know but still" he mumbled quietly. Hajime looked the other way and sighed. As much as he wanted to right now, he couldn't cry, because he new for a fact that if he did, oikawa would break down and decide not to go. He looked back up at the sky and closed his eyes only to snap them open when he felt a hand on his. His heart beat picked up as he looked at his hands and then at oikawa who was still staring at the sky. The orange light from the sky highlighted the features on his face and traced the lines his tears had left on his cheeks.
"I am really going to miss you, y'know" he whispered and squeezed Iwaizumis fingers.
"...yeah...me too" Iwaizumi choked slightly on the last words, letting out a few tears as he squeezed his hand back.
They stayed like this for a while, talking about the memories they shared and laughing at the idiotic things they did. For a moment, it didn't feel like anything bad was happening, but all good moments come to an end. For them, it ended with oikawa checking his watch and shakily sighing.
"I should probably get hole now. My mum will kill me if I don't get enough sleep before the flight" he said, his voice wavering in some parts as he stood up, holding a hand out to Iwaizumi. Hajime took his hand and pulled himself up, brushing off the dirt before looking back at his bestfriend. Their eyes connected for a few moments before oikawa leaned in and hugged him, squeezing tightly like he never wanted to let go. Iwaizumi hugged back and held in his tears, willing himself not to say those three words that were hiding on the tip of his tongue. They broke apart after a few seconds and oikawa gave a small smile through his slight tears.
"It's been fun y'know?" He said and Iwaizumi nodded
"Yea...it has" he replied
"Thank you...for everything iwa" he whispered and coughed to hide his voice cracking.
"No, Thankyou, Thank YOU for everything. I'm going to miss you so much oikawa" Iwaizumi said quickly and toru let out a sob as he heard Iwaizumi use his actual name.
"I'm going to miss you too." He whispered, looking up to see that Iwaizumi was also crying. "Well...until next time"
"Yea...until next time" Iwaizumi repeated and gave a weak smile.
"Goodbye Iwaizumi. I love you" oikawa said receiving a nod from iwa. He nodded back, turning around and walking away with his hands in his pockets, tears spilling down his cheeks. Iwaizumi fell to his knees and let his tears roll done his cheeks.
"I love you too" he whispered as he clenched his fists. And as he watched oikawa leave, so did the sun, leaving him surrounded by darkness. Only then did he fully realise that this, this was the end.

Ok, ok, SO. I thought of this during English when we were looking over our exam papers. I told my friend about the idea and she said if I wrote it she'd cry lmao so I thought I would anyway cos why not. So uhh yea I hope you liked it 💞
