Chapter 1: Doctor of Logic
Jett Matthews was hiding in a cabinet yet again.
This time around, he had secluded himself inside the science classroom, and was crouching in Cabinet Number 6. Today had been on the not-so-okay side of school. “Batman: The Dark Knight Rises”, had just come out and that was all anyone could talk about! It basically took all Jett had not to lash out at all of them. It was the worst kind of torture for him, and he had been nearly this close to having a panic attack. Which explained why the moment school had ended, he had rushed to Ms.Hopper’s science classroom and tumbled his way into a state of makeshift calm.
There were a few reasons why he had chosen Cabinet Number 6:
1) It was probably clean because he knew Ms.Hopper knew about his condition and his odd habits.
2) It was comfortable, and there was a reasonably sized crack that let him have a sufficient amount of air so that he wouldn’t suffocate.
3) It was the biggest cabinet out of all of them, and he wasn’t a very tall person but he liked his wiggle room.
4) Six was his favorite number. (And there are various reasons for that as well, which we won’t get into.)
Clarence Forge High School, San Jose, California ended at approximately 2:00 P.M. At 2:00:10 Jett was already out the door, escaping the clutches of History and whatnot, and by 2:01 Jett had settled himself inside the cabinet all comfy and cozy. At this point in time, most of the students in Ms.Hopper’s class had not yet even begun to pack up because she was still passing back papers.
Seven minutes later, around 2:08, Jett had officially conked out and nobody could wake him up. They, (the teachers and admin), had tried almost everything, (at least everything that was in their power without breaking the sexual harassment laws), including playing a loud Irish jig. Nothing had worked. Lucky for Jett, Ms.Hopper was his aunt, so she could easily drive him home; although in all honesty, it was very hard trying to drag a 145 pound, fifteen year old boy out of the building, through campus, into the parking lot, and loaded into the car. Or to be more precise, a teeny-tiny, itsy-bitsy, adorable little Bug car.
Jett was still asleep by the time Ms.Hopper had drove him home, and didn’t wake up until his internal clock told him he could; which was about six-ish. When he woke up, he found himself up in his room on the floor. Which made him wonder about how many people had to drag him up here since his room was all the way up in the attic. Besides that, his mouth felt dry and disgusting, but that didn’t really bother him. What bothered him more was the thought of leaving his room, and being confronted by his parents. So instead, he decided to wait out the storm and do his homework instead.
Jett was a whiz at doing homework, give him anything at all to complete, and he’d never ever procrastinate. He was just a freshman, yet he was already doing pre-calc. You would think that the whole asian thing he had going on would make him good at math and science, but math wasn’t his forte though. It was Language Arts. Poems, persuasive essays, narratives, especially the narratives, he loved doing it all. In a world where the villains could win, the girl never got the guy, and where there didn’t have to be happy endings, it was bliss. If you liked that kind of thing.
And Jett loved it.
Ever since he was little, Jett had been a extreme pessimist and villain appreciator. When he was five, and saw Harry Potter supposedly kill Voldemort in, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, he cried and cried for ages. When his parents finally calmed him down, he managed to blubber, “He’s hurt and no one cares about him! Why don’t they care?”
