Chapter 8: Aleks’ Special Friend

As they rushed in, Emily realized that there was really no need to be worried of being late, there was practically no one in the hall, except a few others.

“Where do we sit?” Emily said, turning to Aleks for guidance, but he was already gone. Emily craned her neck to find him and finally spotted him in a corner by himself, he looked as if he didn’t want to be noticed by her, or anyone really.

Emily would not let that happen. She marched confidently over to Aleks and plopped herself right in front of him.

Aleks mumbled something inaudible.

“¿Qué?” Emily accidentally slipped into Spanish, “I mean, what?”

“You should go.” Aleks said, avoiding eye contact with Emily.

“Why ever would I do that?”

“Just go.” Aleks ran his hands through his hair nervously.

“Why.”

“Just. Go.” Aleks spat through gritted teeth, maintaining eye contact with the ground.

“You should probably listen to him sweetheart.” A honey-like voice, sweet, but sticky, sang out behind him. Marcie.

“I-uh-what?” Emily said intelligently.

“Listen to him. Get your little hindy up and scadattle. This one’s mine. Paws off sister.” Marcie said.

“You’re his… girlfriend?” Emily choked on the last word because she couldn’t quite believe it.

“That’s right honey. Now I suggest you move before I make you.” Marcie said smugly.

Emily stared at Aleks in disbelief.

“Go.” He said firmly, looking like he wanted to go die in a whole.

Emily threw her hands up in the air and walked off uncertainly to go find Ellis and Madie.

Ellis and Madie had been watching the whole debacle.

“What was that all about?” Madie wondered aloud.

“Not quite sure myself.” Emily returned to no one in particular, looking back over her shoulder to where Marcie chattered away while Aleks looked like he was about to hurl himself off a cliff.
