Chapter 7: Aleks’ Eyes
His eyes. Emily thought.
There was something different about his eyes.
Aleks was dragging Emily out of the room. He had WAY too much energy.
“Aleks?” Emily said uncertainly.
“Yes?” He said, without turning around.
“Can you please look at me?”
“Wanna see my handsome face again do you?” Aleks teased.
Emily rolled her eyes.
Aleks whipped around to look at her, causing a slight breeze.
Emily’s fierce eyes stared into Aleks’. They both paused, and then gasped so loudly that a mouse would’ve been knocked dead within seconds.
“Your eyes…” Emily breathed softly.
The eyes that stared back at her were identical to hers.
One was brown, the other green.

They stood there in shock for a moment, both of their stares piercing into the other, until Aleks shook himself out of it.
“No.. this isn’t possible,” Aleks muttered, beginning to pace, “They told me I was the only one, and yet, there she is. Surely they would’ve told me if there was another one, and of course they would’ve if there were one coming to James Prince… right? But, she’s here, she has the eyes and I didn’t know…”
Emily was pacing right beside him, “Ellis told me I was the only one…Well what would he know? But isn’t it odd that there was another one here in this school that nobody knew about? And then again how did no one know about me?” She shook her head in wonder.
They both stopped at the same time, side by side.
“Did you know about this?” Aleks demanded, snapping his gaze onto Emily.
“No! Of course not!” Emily said defiantly, confused on Aleksander’s sudden onset of harshness.
“Sorry that was harsh,” Aleks said, “Of course you wouldn’t know about this, you’ve only just learned about our whole world today! The real question is, how did I not know about this?”
He shrugged, and then took off again. Emily sighed and followed, sprinting to catch up.
“This whole thing is terribly confusing,” Emily said, keeping pace with Aleks.
“I think it’s best not to discuss this now,” Aleks glanced nervously at his watch, “We’ve only got twenty-two minutes till lunch and I don’t want our food to get cold.”
He started the tour like nothing had happened. “Over here we have the main entrance. Well, it’s not really the main entrance because hardly anyone uses it except for on the first day of school…”
Emily zoned him out and let her mind wander.
How strange it was… only a week ago she was dreading coming to James Prince, without any friends, and now she was here. With her best friend Madie, her new friend Ellis, and Aleks, whom Emily hoped would be her friend. And she was an Elementalist… whatever that meant. Then she collapsed, then the fact she was supposedly unique, then of course Aleks who had the same eyes as her…
Emily realized that Aleks was staring at her as they walked.
“What?” Emily asked, defensively. Aleks laughed.
“I just asked if you had any questions, but my guess is that I’ve been practically talking to a wall the past nineteen minutes and thirty seconds.” Aleks said with a grin.
Emily’s face turned a brighter shade of red than her red curly hair.
Aleks laughed again, and pulled something out from the back pocket of his uniform, “here’s a map to help you get around, feel free to ask me any questions about where to go or what to do, I’ve been watching students for years, so I know how practically everything works.”
Emily raised an eyebrow at the last part.
“Hey, I’m only half stalker,” Aleks said with a sly grin, “just kidding, I’m a huge stalker.”
Emily laughed.
He glanced at his watch. “Time to go to the Hall of Occasions, it’s lunchtime.” A goofy grin was plastered across his face.
But was it her imagination or were his eyes filled with disappointment?
