Major Jackson and Major White were dispatched to Fayetteville at 0900 hours on 24th March under strict instructions to refrain from contacting Major Walker unless in a state of emergency. John was dispatched 2 days later with the code name Jack Smith, ex-officer of the 25th Infantry.
The toughest task for John was to actually look like a military officer recently discharged from duty. He picked up some tank tops and combat pants from the commissary and had them washed multiple times to give them a worn-out look. He got his old combat boots and concealed a knife in them.
He took a bus to a small town some kilometers away from Fayetteville and planned to walk down the rest of the road. He got a lift halfway by a Fayetteville police officer. Sergeant Lee was kind enough to leave him near a motel. He checks in into the motel with the name, Jack Smith. He finds out that the police chief of the town also lived in the cheap motel. He met her during dinner hours at the restaurant.
Captain Wilson: Are you liking the town?
John: Ya, it's a small cozy town.
Wilson: So, how did you end up here?
John: Well, I'm just wondering about it. I recently took voluntary retirement from the Army for personal reasons.
Wilson: I was in the Marine Corps and I took retirement from the corps. I joined the police force about 2 years earlier. My dad was the captain at the time.
John: My father was in the Marine Corps.
Wilson: Well, hope you like the town.
When John returns to the motel, the owner gives him a package and said that it was delivered a few minutes ago by a man. John takes the package and goes up to his room. He opens the package and is confused as the letter inside is addressed to him by real name. He reads it. The letter says that it has been written by a person attached with the 75th Ranger Regiment of the US Military based out of Fort Bragg, Fayetteville. The person says that General James Walker was killed by an officer of the same regiment.
