It had swallowed her whole covering her in black. The dark was what was around her taking her slowly, little by little.
Unconsciously, the events of the day began to flash behind her eyes in a whirl.

Just a few hours earlier.
Her mother slapping her for having a boyfriend who in actual fact was not real. She still winced at the memory.

Her favourite compass keychain she had received from a queer stranger she met when she was three, the only one that used to make her hope, getting stolen by the same boys who had killed her cat. She let them go. She still broke at the memory.

The popular boy in school who was her friend for the last three days, denied her in front of his friends and called her a loser and a useless person to her face. She still teared at the memory.

The teacher who had locked the door behind her and attempted to have his way with her. She was down from the morning and ignored all the warning signs as she submitted the book to the teacher. Were it not for the banging on the door that distracted the teacher, making her climb out the window to escape, she would have been used.

She'd rather die from jumping from the first floor balcony than be used by a teacher. She had sprained her ankle. She still hurt at the memory.

As she run through the park to he favourite spot, she crashed into someone and fell on the floor. In embarrassment, she his her face but the person she bumped into reached down and pulled her up. He looked into her eyes. She still remembered what he said. "Let me put a smile on your face." The guy smiled at her. "I'll help you." She forced a smile at him. Then her smile turned real, not forced.
She managed to smile in the darkness.

She smiled and blinked, but it had been too long in the darkness. And it took her away. It took her away but she still smiled.
