Warnings: Cussing, a little bit of sad Alex

Bobby pulls into what I'm assuming is his house, and we all hop out of the car. I follow the guys to the shed next to the house.

"You guys aren't gonna kill me here, are you?"

Luke snickers, "Very funny, but no."

Reggie pulls open the doors, revealing a pretty big studio area.  They immediately drop their bags and head to their instruments.

"So, AJ..." Alex starts.  I shake my head and give him a look, trying to tell him not to bring it up.  "How's writing going?"

Damn it.

"Writing?" Luke asks, eyes darting from Alex to me.  "What the fuck," I mouth to Alex.  He ignores me and answers Luke's question, "Songwriting, and AJ sings too."

"Really?  Well, show us what you got, new girl."

"I-I mean," I hesitate, "I don't really sing anymore."  "Ok, how about showing us something you wrote?" he proposes.

"I haven't written in a while either, and I don't have my journal," I lie, knowing damn well my journal was sitting at the bottom of my bag.  "Oh, that's okay," I could see his excitement deflate a little.  I immediately felt bad, but I couldn't bring myself to tell them the truth.

***FLASHBACK***

I weave my way through the crowded hallway, hoping to avoid the typical mean girl trio.  Alexia, Brianna, and Carissa, otherwise known as the ABC bitches. I became friends with Brianna and Carissa shortly after Alex had left, until they dropped me when Alexia moved here. As soon as she came along, their nice personalities faded and out came the cattiness.

"AJ, is that you?" I hear a sickeningly sweet voice call out. "Shit," I mumble underneath my breath. I hear a high pitched giggle from Carissa, "I think it is, Bri."

Someone grabs my wrist, and I turn to see the queen bitch herself. "Hm...do you have your journal today? I know you know how fun it is to read out to everyone during lunch." I sigh, "Don't you bitches have someone else to bother?"

"Maybe, but it's more fun to mess with you," Brianna sneers. Carissa appears on the other side of Alexia, "Especially because of the shitty songs you write and try to sing. You know, we tried to spare your feelings before, but your attempts at singing are fucking horrible."

I close my eyes for a moment, trying to suppress my tears. "Oh, I know where it is," my eyes flutter open at the sound of my backpack being unzipped. Alexia waves the book in front of my face after she had plucked it out of my bag.

In that moment while I was eating my lunch in the bathroom to avoid more humiliation, I decided to give in. I promised myself that I would give up singing and writing. At least for the rest of high school.

***END FLASHBACK***

After practicing a couple of songs, some theirs and some were covers, they had gone inside to get a snack.  Sadly, Alex took this time to talk to me about earlier.

"What was that about?" Alex pleads.  "What was what about?" I try to play dumb, even though it probably wouldn't work.

"Don't pull that on me, why don't you sing anymore?  You did when I left," the blonde presses.  "That was almost three years ago, blondie.  Things change," I reply vaguely.

Alex scoffs, "Not things like this.  You were as passionate as Luke is about music." I sigh, "I really don't want to talk about it."

Noticing the sadness lingering in your eyes, he backs off, "Okay, but you know you can talk to me.  Just let me know when you're ready." I give the boy a slight nod before pulling him into a hug. "Thank you," I mumble into his chest.

"God, I forgot how much of a hugger you were," he teases. I narrow my eyes, "Don't act like you didn't miss it, blondie."

"You're not wrong."

The other guys came back and finished up practice. After that, Bobby took his rounds dropping each of us off. First was Reggie, then Luke, which left Alex after me.

Thankfully, my mom had to work late today because she would've chewed me out for not telling her where I was.  Choosing to be productive for once, I began to unpack a little and then started my homework.

I didn't get very far on that, though.  I hadn't learned any of this yet, so I decided to call Alex.

"What do you want, AJ."

"Someone's in a mood."

"Sorry, I-it's just my parents," he stutters, clearly upset.  My eyebrows furrow slightly in confusion; from what I remember his parents were super nice and laid-back.

"What happened?"

"I finally came out to them a few months ago, and to say the least, it didn't go well."

All confusion about homework flies out the window, and I go into protective best friend mode.  Alex had come out to me in sixth grade, which only made our friendship stronger.  I got super protective over him especially whenever people tried to make fun of him.

I take a deep breath, trying not to go completely protective psycho best friend yet, "What did they do?"

"They rarely acknowledge me to my face anymore, but I always hear them talking about where they went wrong or just giving me disappointed looks," I hear him sigh on the other end of the phone, "I just want it to go back to normal."

I bit the inside of my cheek, trying to figure out how to respond, "How about you come over, help me with homework, then pizza, ice cream, and movie?"  One of the many things Alex and I had in common is that we had to be distracted when we're upset or else we'll get overcome with thoughts and emotions.

"By helping you with homework, you mean me doing it for you, don't you?" he scoffs.  I dramatically gasp, "What?  How dare you accuse me of such a thing?"  "Mhm," I could practically hear his eye roll through the phone, "see you in 20, shortie."  I internally groan at the nickname but smile that he seems a little better, "Fuck you, Mercer."
