Hotch's pov
...Maybe it was the sense of innocence that captivated you. Or maybe it was simply the calmness her presence gave you.
But whatever you found yourself doing no matter how stressed you were, or who you were with your mind always found its way back to y/n.
You couldn't explain the attraction you knew it was wrong you were her boss, her mentor. But the first time her eyes met your hazel ones she bewitched your body and soul.
At first glance she seemed calm and put together, natural-born talent some might say. But the longer you saw her you realized that was far from the truth.
Glancing out your office window you would spot her gazing into nothing fiddling with her necklace that hung loosely around her neck, lost in her own world. Sometimes her thoughts would completely consume her till her legs continuously moved up and down and strands of hair would fall in her face.
There was so much to her, so much you had yet to unravel. You wanted to know everything about her. What made her laugh, what made her cry. But part of you knew you would never get to know her that well.
Even though deep down inside you wanted something to bloom, into something even as simple as a friendship. You knew for a fact it would never get to that.
But a sense of hope sparked through you as you heard the words that tumbled out of her beautiful pink lips. "I'm gonna do to school and continue this job. I can handle it I know I can."
A tingly feeling ignited your body, you weren't sure if it's was from the alcohol you consumed earlier in the night. Or it was simply just being in the presence of y/n.
You had never felt this feeling around anyone, not even Hailey. You found yourself smiling more when you were in the presence of y/n, found yourself relaxing when you heard her voice. Her smile and laugh were enough to make you let out a rare smile.
Driving home you let a random radio station play faintly in the background. Rolling the window down you let the cool air travel through the car.
A sense of unknown happiness ignited through your body. The happiness you hadn't felt since your early 20s. The drive back home was quick the happiness only leaving your body when you opened your front door.
Only then when you looked into the big empty house reality set in of where you stood in this world.
The once bright house that was always lit up and the smell of vanilla floating through the air was gone. The new scent of dust and the house completely blacked out became your new normal.
The reminder making itself more evident as the divorce papers sat on the counter, waiting to be signed. Slipping off your blazer you hung it on the coat rack walking to the kitchen.
The papers caught your eye screaming at you to sign them. Lifting the documents you lightly traced the words scanning over them. All most everything was filled out except the last page where your signature was needed to confirm what you signed above.
You were giving everything to Hailey. She deserved everything you had including getting full custody of Jack. Giving her full custody of Jack was the hardest decision you've ever had to make. But you knew it was for the best, you wouldn't be home enough to give him a stable life. But you both agreed you could spend as much time with him when you had the chance.
Pulling out a stool from under the island you grabbed a pen going over the papers. Your pen hovered over the line that needed a signature. If you signed this it was over. Every memory you made with Hailey, all the things left unsaid and undone would forever linger if you signed this one line.
