I was left alone at that point. I said "goodbye" to mum, dad, and my older sister Arielle. I tried to make my way to my apartment in an Uber and hauled my luggage up two flights of stairs to my room. I ran back downstairs to the lobby and asked the man at the front desk for my room key. He handed me the engraved key and I jogged back up the stairs. I opened the door quickly and brought my bags inside. I was wondering wether Zoe was joking or she really did want to meet me at the beach and show me around Brighton but I decided to go anyway.
The beach was amazingly beautiful! The white sand glistened against the sunlight coming from above me. The salt water smelled...well, like salt water and it roared out toward the middle of the ocean. The water crashing against the sand made a wet, gross feeling underneath my feet. It was really cold that day and my thin, floral dress and wedge shoes were not appropriate for the weather.
I heard a voice behind me. I assumed it was Zoe so I turned around. It was actually the guy who was with Zoe in the airport. The funny looking one with the interesting sounding voice. He was with another guy who was tall, white, and had blond/brown scruffy hair. That guy had an arm around a girl who was much shorter than him. She was a brunette with slightly pale skin and beautiful brown eyes.
Zoe's friend noticed me and walked over with the other two.
"Hey! You're Jenny from the airport right?" He asked enthusiastically.
"Yes. I am." I responded shyly.
"Cool! I'm Alfie. Zoe's boyfriend. And this is Felix and Marzia." Alfie introduced me with hand motions.
"Nice to meet you." Felix's Swedish accent was really easy to tell apart.
"Hello." Marzia said nodding with a beautiful Italian voice.
I assumed they were a couple since they were now holding hands.
"Great to meet you all." I couldn't really say anything.
When it was just me and Zoe in the airport, I could say anything. I felt like I had a connection with her and I didn't even know her. Eventually, I found Zoe in a restaurant by the sealine. I walked in and her face lit up like a Christmas tree.
"Jenny!" Zoe reacted to my movement of opening the door and walked really quickly toward me.
"Hi!" I said throwing my arms in the air to hug her.
It was as if we hadn't seen each other after 10 years or something. We chatted and ate some hamburgers and chips. After the meal, Zoe and I headed to a train station.
"What are we doing here?" I asked Zoe really confused.
"Oh! We're going to London. My brother Joe is having a surprise party for his room mate's return to England. He had been in America on holiday." She explained.
"Oh. Cool."
The train ride was long, smelly, and crowded. I wasn't sure if I could have gone my entire life without having to take a train to another place, but it was obviously too late now. We made it to London and I woke Zoe up from a sleep she seems to drift into without me noticing. We then took a cab to Joe's apartment.
