Tweldor is described as being in "an in between place." You usually have to be invited there, and access is via a portal.
In the first book from the Chronicles of Tweldor series, The Jezebels of Bedlam, several characters are taken to Tweldor by others who are already Tweldorians.
For Max and Ursula however, the experience is different. They are called by the guardians themselves, and follow a gentle voice through a golden door, which appears out of nowhere.
