I went inside and smiled as Timmy and Gracie greeted me. I gave Timmy the books I picked out for him and gave Gracie the seeds I got for her. She was excited to go show Maggie. Timmy sat down and started flipping through pages. That bought me some time to come up with a story for them when they ask where their daddy is.

"Are you okay?" Beth asked walking over with the fussy baby. Seeing her face made some of my worries go away. Beth smiled softly and handed her to me.

"She missed you." I held her in my arms and smiled when she grabbed my finger with her tiny hand.

"Where's Rick?" I asked Beth.

"He was out here earlier. He cleaned up a bit but he's back in the tunnels." She told me.

"Alright, can you get everyone in here. There's something I have to tell you guys. And there are some books in my bag you might like. There are some for Carl in there too."

"Thanks." She smiled softly. I nodded.

"Do you know where my brother is?"

"I think he's still in bed." I nodded walking over to his cell.

"Charlie." I called out. He groaned and turned to look at me.

"Welcome back." He sat up rubbing the sleep from his eyes.

"Jimmy's dead. Shane killed him and has been pretending to be him this whole time." Saying it out loud somehow made it all more painful.

"Are you fucking serious?" He stood up from his bed.

"I'll kill that son of a bitch."

"He's gone Charlie. I got rid of him." His demeanor softened and he walked over to hug me, careful not to suffocate the newborn in my arms. He kissed my head and cupped my face.

"Are you okay?"

"I'm trying to be. I've been with Jimmy for 7 years. I always knew there was a chance I'd lose him but this... he didn't even get a proper burial." I cried. He took the baby from my arms and laid her down around a bunch of pillows before hugging me again.

"Shh, you're gonna be okay Evie because you're not alone."

After I managed to calm down, I was able to tell the rest of the group What's going on. I pulled Gracie and Tommy to the side when they finally asked where their dad was.

"Do you two remember when daddy used to go away for a while for work, and we sat you guys down and told you that one day, daddy might not come back home but it's okay because even though he's not here, he'll always be in your heart." I tried to keep my voice steady but all I wanted to do was cry.

"Daddy's not coming home?" Gracie asked. I stroked her hair and shook my head.

"No baby."

"It's okay Gracie, daddy's in your heart. Yours too mommy right?" Timmy said. I smiled softly.

"That's right baby. Mommy loves you don't forget that." They both hugged me tight .

"Now let's get started on your school assignments. Beth is gonna help you while I go talk to uncle Rick Okay?" They nodded. I kissed their heads.

I stood up and got them started on their work. Beth walked over to help and I thanked her before grabbing a flashlight and heading towards the tunnels. I furrowed my eyebrows seeing Hershel making his way out.

"You talked to him?"

"He doesn't want to talk to me. He's not all the way there right now Evelyn. The grief is too much for him."
