Art had always been an escape from reality. It had always helped me in portraying my feelings when words couldn't. Whether it was a landscape of a place I wished I could be at or a portrait of a person I wished I had by my side. It just turned into my way of coping over the years.
Sure, Parker had found some of the stuff I drew or painted over years, and he wasn't happy with them, but I could care less. He can't take away everything I love.
It took me fifteen minutes to get everything I would need for the new portrait I was planning to paint and another ten minutes to figure out all the supplies I needed for school.
I headed to the checkout once I was done and waited in the queue.
"No, no, no," said a voice coming from behind. It was low and soft, and it sounded like a little girl's voice.
"Just choose one of them," said a different voice. It was a masculine, deep voice.
"Aidenn!"
"Lilithhh!"
I chuckled slightly to myself but instantly regretted it as a searing pain flashed through my whole body.
I closed my eyes, taking a deep breath.
'Inhale... Exhale... It's easy...' I reminded myself. 'You're fine. You can go through this too.'I opened my eyes and sighed with relief, noticing that no one had really noticed that something was wrong with me.
"Just take the blue one," said the masculine voice again.
This time, however, I decided to turn around and see what was going on. My gaze fell on a little girl who couldn't be more than six years old.
Her light brown hair cascaded her shoulders like a waterfall. Her bangs covered her forehead, and her wide, blue eyes were fixed on the person in front of her. She had some freckles scattered across her chubby cheeks and nose. She also had two notebooks held tightly to her chest.
The guy in front of her looked like he was a year older than me. His piercing green eyes that were somehow identical to mine landed on the notebooks the little girl was holding. He ran his fingers through his fluffy brown hair, sighing. "Just choose one of them Lily."
The girl's started frowning as she looked at the notebooks she was holding. "I don't know which one looks better."
"I would've said that you can take both of them, but your dad would get mad," he mumbled, more likely to himself.
"You can talk to him," she whispered, a sign of hope gleaming in her eyes.
"No Lily," he shook his head. "He made it clear. You already have tons of notebooks at home."
The little girl looked down in disappointment, staring at the notebooks held tightly to her chest. She pouted, her eyes travelling away from the notebooks to my direction.
