"Are you fine?" Asked Elena, gently squeezing my hand. I flinched away with horror before noticing that it was just my friend and that she wouldn't hurt me.
Guilt instantly settled upon my heart; I shouldn't have flinched away from her. I gave her an apologetic look as I nodded. "Sorry. I just zoned out."
My gaze travelled to my right, noticing that Landon was gone.
"He left, don't worry," said Elena, a reassuring smile playing across her lips. I sighed as I pressed the ice pack against my ankle.
"Where did you get that from?" She asked, concern lacing her voice, as she pointed at my injured ankle.
"I've already told you, I'm kinda clumsy. I fell off the stairs."
"Shouldn't you go to a doctor?" She asked as I looked at her.
I fought against the urge to laugh. Doctor and me? Parker would kill me if he ever found out that I had visited a doctor.
"It'll be fine," I told her. "It doesn't hurt that much. I'll just take some painkillers. And the ice pack is supposed to help."
Elena hesitantly nodded. And both of us spent the rest of the time talking about different topics. Landon came once or twice to ask if I were fine; I told him that I was. But the way he looked at me made me realise that knew something — that he might have found out. And even though I attempted to ignore it, I dreaded the consequences.
"Will you come to school tomorrow?" Asked Elena. I nodded. I didn't want to miss school in the first place today; I just couldn't move.
"Why would I miss school?"
She pointed at my ankle. "If I were you, I would've given myself a two weeks break. Even though we just started."
"I would've given myself a break too."
My head snapped up at the familiar voice my ears had just registered, my lips instantly lifting into a small smile. Henry's eyes stared back at mine, a glint of amusement flashing within them. He was leaning against the doorframe, his arms crossed over his chest.
"Don't even think about coming in if you didn't take a shower," muttered Elena as she narrowed her eyes at him.
"Don't worry." He let a scoff out and disappeared out of the room. Within two minutes, Henry was back, dragging a chair behind him. He carefully placed it in front of the bed and sat on it.
"I had to spend the whole day with this dude," muttered Elena, pointing at Henry.
"Don't even let me get started," spoke Henry, shaking his head. "How do you tolerate hearing the stuff she talks about?"
