"Hey bitch! get over here, we are going to show you that girls like you don't belong in our school!" I tried to run faster, but all three of the girls grabbed me and pulled me to the bathroom stall. I gave up trying to fight because I wasn't so much bigger than them, especially in their heels. "Let me go! I've done nothing wrong" I screamed at the tallest girl,Davis, but she and the other girls threw me on the ground and started kicking me with their heels. Davis kicked me in the face and the other girls stopped on her command. She kneeled down to my bloody face, smiling in delight. "Now think about this moment if you ever try to sit, look, or even speak to us! Got it?!". I was going to respond, but I was too occupied with all the pain to do anything but cry. The girls soon left the bathroom after fixing their makeup and hair, while I continued to cry on the ground.
After around 40 minutes I got up, realizing that school is now over and I just missed study hall. "Fuck!" I yelled as I was holding on to the walls trying to balance myself. After I caught my balanceI walked out of the bathroom down the hallway to the back door in the school. I figured if I tried to walk out the front entrance the girls would jump me once again. After I got outside I took in the fresh air and the warm sun trying to relax myself. I started walking home, I made it about a mile close to my house before getting exhausted. I looked around trying to figure out where I was, but I don't recognize this place at all. "Maybe I was walking the wrong way but I know this isn't where I belong" I said to myself as I continued to walk. I found myself walking to this tall building. It looked like it must have had workers or anyone inside, so I walked in.
I was correct as soon as I walked in I saw tons of people, but before I could step further I was stopped by these security guards. They were big and bulky showing the authority they had over me."where do you think you're going young lady?" one of the officers said who had blond hair. They both took a huge step forward knowing I would take one back. "I just wanted to ask for help, I'm lost and I'm trying to get back home" I said trembling in fear. I have never been stopped by any police or security guard,or any adult in that matter. I have always been silent, afraid to speak up for myself. I guess you could say I am a little shy. "Im sorry little girl but you are going to have to leave the premises, IMMEDIATELY!" the guard said, while the other one continued to stare me down like i was some criminal. "But I-" before I could finish my sentence I was interrupted by a man who i could not see but hear really close by. "Let her go!". The security guards turned around looking at the man who spoke, but I couldn't see him because the guards were blocking my view.
"Sir! This little girl is an intruder! She tried to give us some sob story to make her enter but I denied it!" the first guard said. Standing up straight like he was afraid of the mysterious man. "Well did you ever think that it's not a sob story and she is a lost little girl?". I heard the mysterious man say as he moved the guards aside taking a step forward close to me." are you okay,miss...?.the man asked. He was so much taller than me then the three girls who jumped me earlier. He had shiny brown hair and blue ocean eyes. His suit looked different on his body then it would on most business men as if he was uncomfortable in it. "Jones...Cori Jones sir".
I blurted out, avoiding the question he asked. I didn't know what to do so I started bowing like he was a king or something. He and the guards started bursting into laughter as if they had an inside joke or something. "Why are you doing that? You know I'm the owner of this company, not the king right? The man said as he and the guards next to him slowly stopped laughing." oh...um..sorry, sir" I said as I looked down at my feet, avoiding his face. "You don't have to call me sir, only they do," he said, pointing at the guards and assistants."you can call me by my name".
"What is your name?"I asked. Before he could respond a female assistant walked up interrupting him,she was also tall and looked like she meant business." did you even read the sign before just barging in here interrupting everyone at their jobs?". She looked pretty pissed when she said that to me, looking me up and down like how Davis used to when we were in junior high. The mysterious man looked at the lady and responded '' beverly please, she probably didn't see the sign when she walked in, look at her she's obviously exhausted and needs help". Beverly rolled her eyes and walked away after giving me this snooty look on her face. The man shook his head and stepped closer to me holding out his hand for me to shake it."My name is Brandon Gold, or you can call me Mr.Gold, or just Brandon". I shook his hand and responded quietly" okay, Mr.Gold". I let out a smile as he looked at me with his eyes. They were so beautiful like I've never seen before. They showed that he is nice and soft but also showed authority and pain.
He looked at me smiling as he took my hand. I began to blush unsure what to do or say. He slowly walked to the elevators pulling me with him. When we entered the elevator he let go of my hand and clicked a button. I stood in the corner away from him in silence watching the doors close. He looked at me as I was trapped in the corner. He took a step closer to me but stopped and looked at the doors as they opened. He grabbed my hand once again slowly pulling me out of the elevator with him. We walked into the end of the hallway until we reached a door at the end. He opened it and walked inside while I followed. He closed the door behind me and sat at this large desk. I was standing in front of the door and I looked around the office. It was huge and nicely decorated. " come sit, please" he said as he pointed to the chair in front of his desk. I walked over slowly and sat down. " so, Cori..what brought you here?" he said as he sat back in his chair, folding his hand on the desk.
" I wanted to ask someone for help to get home from school, I didn't mean to disturb anyone at their jobs, Mr.Gold" i said quietly. He sat up and looked at me with worry on his face.
"Don't listen to what Beverly said, she's my assistant and she has no right to be annoyed about work when she only comes in to yell at people". I looked relieved when he said that. I felt bad about interrupting everyone but now i know that the boss isn't even pissed about it. "You asked for help to go home, correct? Are you running away from something? Or someone?" he said looking at the scars and blood on my arms and face. "No Mr.Gold, I just was getting back from school,it's'.... been a rough day" I said , looking down clearly upset with myself for not fighting back with Davis and her two friends. I always hated that I could never stand up for myself and that I had no friends to help me. " i can tell.." he said as he stood up out of his chair, walking towards me kneeling in front of me. " Are you sure you are okay, Cori?" He asked me, holding my hands while I was still sitting in the chair. For some reason this felt wrong the way he was holding my hands and looking at me. It kinda felt like he liked me! I had no idea about relationships at all, so I just figured it was normal for a 24 year old strange man holding a 14 year old girl's hands. Now thinking about that I stood up quickly and pulled my hands away.
"Im...im fine, Mr. gold" I said walking to the door. Before I could open it he spoke loudly " WAIT!".
I kept my hand on the door knob as I looked back at Mr.Gold "y...yes?". He walked closer to me and took my hand off of the door knob. "Don't you need to get home? I'm going to give you a ride".
" It's okay! I don't want to intrude on your work, I'll just get a taxi. My mom is probably worried sick" I said to him. He completely ignored me and grabbed his coat and keys, walking me back to the elevator."No way am I letting a little girl in some random taxi car this late by herself. As an adult it's my responsibility to make sure all kids in my hands are safe, and I'm pretty sure your mother wouldn't want that either" he said after stopping in his front lobby.
I then realized he was correct. My mom would kill me regardless for coming home late but if an adult was with me she would know that I am safe. He brought me to his car, a shiny red Porsche. I got in the passenger seat and sat my backpack on my lap. As he got in, he looked at me smiling"I'm so glad we met today Cori". I looked at him confused, he made it seem like a good thing that I got beat up, lost and intruded his building.he started driving after telling him my address.
I lived in a small apartment with my mom, grandfather, and little brother. We didn't have much money. My mom worked as a nurse at the local hospital for 10 years, living off of the same pay for as long as my brother was born.it wasn't perfect but i still appreciated having a family and being alive. We arrived, I looked out of the car window to see my brother and mom waiting outside for me. "Oh, my baby! I'm so glad you're safe!" my mom said running up to me, hugging me so tight that i almost couldn't breathe. After she stopped she looked at the bruises on my face then looked at Mr. Gold, angrily. She pulled me and my brother behind her, as if she was our human shield. " did you do this to my daughter? I'm calling the police!". Before Mr. Gold could say anything. I stepped in front of my mom and yelled at her"No! He didn't, the mean girls at school I told you about did, Mr.Gold helped me get home!". Mr.Gold looked at me confused, "You never told me that you got beat up,Cori!" he said. He was obviously pissed but I wasn't sure if it was at me. "Well thank you for bringing my daughter safely home, I was so scared" my mom said, hugging me tightly once again. As my mom was squeezing me,I looked at Mr.Gold smiling at me. He seemed pretty happy that I was safe. Shortly after he left and I went to bed dreaming about the entire day.
