We were out on the boat for the third day in a row, looking at the wreck. I sat beside JJ near the wheel of the ship while the others stood out on the back
"It's not there." John B exhaled, staring at the monitor. "Look, just... just pull the drone up. Shit."
"Look, we can do another pass. recharge the battery." Pope suggested in hope as John B's hands clung to the back of his head. "We can... we can go back down."
"We've been through it three times." JJ called out. "There's nothing there."
"Shut up!" John B yelled back and I shrugged.
"What? It's true!" I agreed with JJ.
"The gold could be buried. We don't know." Kie called back and I shrugged.
"If it was there, it would've been found on the metal detector, okay?" Pope insisted, "Somebody beat us to it."
"Or it was never there." JJ muttered, turning the ship around, before turning to me. "Hey, I'm staying at the Chateau tonight. You in?"
"JJ, you haven't been home in three days." I replied and he shrugged, scoffing.
"Aannd, you haven't been home in four days." He replied and I nodded slightly.
"Touche, fine I'll stay at the chateau with you." I smirked, his hand finding it's way to my thigh. "But I should probably go home first, you know, shower and make sure my parents think I'm still grounded."
"Hey guys, there's a movie in the park on tonight, you guys in?" Kie asked, poking her head through the door and I nodded.
"Yeah, sounds like fun." I agreed, turning to JJ.
"Oh yeah, I'm in. But I'm doing gun practice first." He agreed and I rolled my eyes back at him.
"Of course you are. So, I'll meet you and Pope at yours and we'll go over together?" I asked and he nodded, making sure no one was watching before pecking his lips to my temple. He dropped me off at the closest wharf to my house, so I ran over, climbing onto the roof before entering through my window. I  grabbed some shorts and tee shirt before walking out of my room and into the shower. I washed my hair and shaved before getting out, drying myself and getting dressed. I walked out of the bathroom, seeing my mother coming up the stairs, so I made sure to walk slow enough that she saw that I was still here. I locked my bedroom door behind me, before climbing out of my window and walking over to JJ's house.

As I started to get closer, I could hear gunshots going off and smiled to myself. I walked out to the back of his house to see a teddy bear perched up on a post that JJ was aiming at. He glanced over his shoulder at me, giving me a small smile before continuing to shoot the bear.
"JJ!" Pope screamed as he came running up the driveway, JJ continuing to aggressively talk to his bear. "JJ! JJ! They know."
"What?" I asked, making him aware that I was there two.
"They know." Pope repeated, JJ putting the gun in his pocket.
"All right, chill, bro. All right?" JJ smirked, "They don't know shit."
"Topper knows I sunk his boat." Pope nodded hysterically.
"How do you know they know?" I asked, standing next to JJ.
"Because Rafe and Topper posted outside of Heyward's and mad dogged me." Pope replied frantically.
"Will you calm down and get a grip, man? They don't know shit." JJ shook his head.
"They have cameras. They could've seen me." Pope insisted.
"There was no power. How could they have seen you?" JJ asked and I shrugged.
"It's Figure Eight. They got generators." I stated, JJ glancing at me.
"They don't give scholarships to kids who vengefully sink boats." Pope shook his head, "It's not a good look on my transcript."
"Enough with the regret, bro!" JJ yelled, wrapping his arm around Pope's neck, "They caved your face in. They hit us, we hit them. It's the law of the jungle. Now, if any Kooks come up to you and ask if you had anything to do with it, you walk up to 'em, look 'em right in the eye, and..."
"Deny the living shit out of it." Pope continued and I nodded slightly.
"That's right. Deny, deny, deny." JJ stated, "But just for safety, we don't go anywhere without protection. Right?"
"Okay, can we go to the movies now? Kie's probably waiting for us." I shook my head and JJ nodded, throwing his gun in the bag.

"I'm so glad that they're still doing this." Kie smiled as we walked into the park. "Keep calm. Carry on. Back to OBX life. You know? Aren't you glad I made you come?"
"Ecstatic." Pope snapped back.
"My couch was pretty comfy, I'll be honest." JJ agreed as we made our way to a spare spot on the ground, Kie going up to get her and Pope a soda.
"We're out of the green zone, man." Pope groaned as we sat down.
"Dude, tranquilo, okay?" JJ replied in a mutter.
"We're in the middle of Kooklandia." Pope complained, "This is the last place I wanted to be."
"Shut up, Pope." JJ groaned, leaning his arm behind me, leaning into my shoulder. I glanced behind us to see that Kie was talking to Rafe at the canteen.
"That's weird." I whispered to JJ, turning his attention to them two.
"Uh, huh."

"Just saw Rafe, and he said, and I quote, "Tell your boy that we know what he did."" Kie informed as she said down, "What is that?"
"Um..." Pope stuttered out, "Where is he?"
"Right there." She pointed, making us all look at Rafe, Topper, and Kelce.
"Great, the whole death squad." Pope whined as JJ hit the back of his head.
"Don't stare, bro." JJ instructed as Pope stared down at his feet. "Just warning you, bro. If they corner me, I'm coming out swinging, okay? Slice and dicin'. I'm on edge right now."
"Yeah, yeah." Pope nodded as JJ picked up his bag.
"If that doesn't work, I got this right here." JJ informed, Pope continuing to nod, "So, we just gotta stay in the group. They can't get us in the group. Like a school of fish. Stay in the school. Can't leave the school."
"I'm sorry, JJ..." Kie tried to interrupt but JJ kept going.
"Stay in school." JJ nodded.
"Please tell me that you did not bring a gun here." Kie insisted, "JJ, there are kids."
"No!" JJ lied, "Kie, I didn't bring the gun. Everything's fine, okay?"
"Wow, thank you. That's really convincing. I love that, JJ." Kie nodded and I shrugged.
"Founding principle, you guys. No secrets amongst Pogues. What is Rafe talking about?" She asked and I glanced to Pope.
"Kie, it might go down tonight." Pope stated, Kie only getting more confused.
"What does that mean? "Might go down tonight." What did y'all do?" She asked as JJ looked between the two of us.
"Deny, deny, deny."
