w i l l i n g t o t a k eI watched a silence fall over the entire class after the abrupt announcement. It didn't make sense to any of us? A top model, one that travels the world and participates in only the top fashion shows, was what our grade depended on?
Professor Kim chuckled as he saw the confusion on all of our faces. "Let me explain. Now this class is designed to be a co-op course; this means you will all be working outside of this lecture hall doing hands-on tasks to better understand the material you learn in class."
The slide changed to display an individual who caught my eye immediately. Stephen Kim; one of the greatest designers to have ever lived and my own personal inspiration.
Playfully hitting Minhyuk to get his attention, I whispered as to not let anyone hear us. "You never told me we were going to be studying Stephen Kim!"
Rubbing his shoulder, Minhyuk shrugged and looked back at the professor as he continued explaining the course.
"I am sure you all know who Stephen Kim is, considering you are taking my class. What you don't know is that Stephen is a close friend of mine and has agreed to help me with your final project. For Seoul Fashion Week, Stephen has a whole 2 hour slot to showcase designs he has been working on for a very long time. But, he needs a marketing and design team who will not only help promote the show throughout the city and on social media, but will plan what the event's theme will be."
The entire class erupted in cheer with many students looking to their peers to express their excitement on working with a true fashion icon.
Professor Kim calmed the students down as he finished off with his announcement.
"Settle down. Before you can jump that high, we will need a leader who will manage both teams, but I will be honest; This role is both physically and emotionally draining. Nobody ever volunteers for it as this is a full time job and those who usually have the role don't perform the best in the course. With that being said, are there any volunteers?"
Silence fell over the class once again as I watched Professor Kim pick up the attendance sheet to choose someone randomly. I looked over at Minhyuk and saw as he avoided eye contact with anybody.
This was a once in a lifetime opportunity that could help me gain the experience I needed. But was it worth risking my grade over, especially when I had a scholarship on the line?
Before Professor Kim could call out any name, I stood up from my seat. Every head in that lecture hall looked at me as I began to speak. "Professor Kim, I'd like to volunteer for the role."
I could see Minhyuk's eyes widen in horror from my peripheral vision as a smile made its way to the professor's face. "In my eight years of teaching this course, we have our first volunteer. Thank you, Miss..."
There was a small pause as he scanned over the attendance sheet for my name. "Kwon Mona, is it?" Nodding quickly, the smile on his face grew wider.
"See me after class, Miss Kwon. You have a lot of work ahead of you."
