The wet rain continues to pour, soaking me to the bone as I stride through the deep puddles that have been forming since this morning.
Cars constantly pass me by, splashing water from the tires, which gets me even wetter.
I stomp a puddle and smile, letting out a small giggle. I've always loved playing in the rain, ever since I was a little kid. It's so much fun!
I finish my walk home, in hopes that Andy left my bag there. The front door creaks open as I step through, taking off my soaked pink sneakers and baby blue socks, setting them near the heater to dry.
My feet quietly thump as I make my way through the living room to the kitchen, nabbing a granny smith apple out of the bowl on the counter, my eyes landing on an odd piece of paper by my...bag! He did drop off my bag!
I pick up the note, looking at the pretty cursive writing.
Emma
I smile. "It's for me!"
I hoist myself onto the counter, opening the note.
I'm really sorry to tell you this, but I'll be gone for a few days. You're old enough, so you won't need a babysitter. However, one of my friends will be checking in on you, so don't do anything I don't want you to do. Be safe, there's food in the fridge. Love you Hunny,
Mom
I stare at the white, old paper in my hands, unsure what to think of it.
However, if she's going to be away for a few days, that means....anime without headphones! Yeah!
I smile to myself and head upstairs with my bag, excited to finally be able to finish the third season of an anime I started last week. It's been getting so good, and the pink alien girl is my favourite!
Just as I hit play, the doorbell rings causing me to groan.
But my show!
I sadly get up, and rush for the door, only to see James standing there under a faded navy blue umbrella, waiting severely impatiently.
He slips off his sunglasses and slowly stuffs them into his pocket, his gaze meeting mine.
"Why do you wear your sunglasses? It's raining, silly." I laugh
His cheeks turn a light pink that's barely noticable. "They're comfy. Anyway, I need to talk to you about something."
I giggle and back up. "Come in!"
He slowly walks into the living room, cautiously looking around.
It's like he's looking to see if anyone is here. How silly of him!
His gaze meets mine as he clears his throat.
"Do you want water?" I ask, and without waiting for an answer I wish to the kitchen to grab him some cool water for his throat.
"No I'm...okay." He trails off, finding a spot on the couch for his bum.
I hand him the glass of water. "What did you want to talk about?"
James stops to think for a minute. "Actually, not here. Would you like to go out for dinner with me tonight?"
Dinner? Me? With James? Yes! Oh man, only if the girls could see me now! I'm going out for dinner with a boy!
"Well?" He asks, starting to feel a little uncertain by my lack of response.
I smile at him, showing my teeth. "Yes! But...like...on a date?"
He laughs. "If that's what you want, sure. Anyway," he stands up. "I'm going to go home for a few minutes and get ready. I'll be here by six to get you, alright? And...wear something not-so-childish please."
I playfully scoff. I'm not childish! ....maybe a little haha.
Nodding, I show him to the door and he leaves.
I scream, running up to my room. "A date! I'm going on a date! Now...what do I wear?"
I nervously laugh. What do I wear?
I glance at my ringing phone and answer it. "Andy? What do you want?"
He takes a deep breath before speaking. "I wanted to apologize to you. Mom told me she was leaving for a few....days. I just wanted to make sure you were alright."
I smile at his concern. "Yep! Although...I do have a question, if that's alright."
"Sure."
"So...theoretically, if I was going on a date...what clothes do you think I should wear?"
Andrew sighs. "Who are you going on a date with?"
My smile fades. "What? No one! I said theoretically. I don't have a date tonight!"
"Listen, Emma. It's okay if you're going on a date, I just need to know where and with who. It's my job to keep you safe, alright?"
I cross my fingers and lie. "I told you, I'm not going anywhere tonight!"
He sighs. "Fine. But I'm coming to check on you at eight tonight, so you better be here."
"Okay!" I chime and hang up the phone.
Oh...I still don't know what to wear. Hmm...
Maybe Sophia and Maralyn can help!
.....they blocked me. I forgot. Oh well! Guess I'll just wear this!
