Ten

"Andrew told me what happened."

Oh. Oh, no. What now? Am I in trouble? But I didnt do anything wrong! Why did he tell on me? Is he just sad that I'll get a boyfriend before he finds another girlfriend? What about my puppy?

"Emma, do you have anything to say?"

I stare up at her. "I'm not a kid! I can do my own things and stuff, and besides! Andy was the one speeding without a seatbelt!"

Oops.

I instantly wince, scared for what's about to happen.

I shouldn't have said that! Now Andy is gonna be mad at me even more...oh, why is this happening?

"He wasn't what?!" She says with a stern tone, clearly upset.

"He, was uh, driving without a seatbelt and speeding..?"

Her eyes flare with rage, her fists clenched and white as she storms back outside.

Oh, oh very much oh no.

I slowly back my way upstairs to my room once more.

Maybe, if I just disappear from this all, it'll just all go away and I won't have to deal with any of it anymore!

Once I reach my room, I grab out a book I havent read yet, and sit down on my bed. I've read most of the manga I own, but not all of it. I just need more! If I read it all I wont have any more to read. It's just logical!

A few pages in, the front door opens again and, once more, I'm called back down to talk.

This time, however, Mum stands with a very angry looking Andy. She sits down on the chair and gestures for the two of us to sit on the couch near her. "Now. Tell me what happened."

"Emma, it may be best if you dropped all contact with this James dude, he doesn't seem like the kind of person for you. I'm just looking out for you. Andy, you're cut from seeing your sister for a month." His jaw hits the floor as Mum continues, "Emma, if he tries to talk to you before the month is over, let me know and I'll get you your puppy."

In a quick, swift movement Andy gets up, leaves and harshly slams the door behind him, not saying another word.

Confused, I just stare at her. "You really mean it?"

She nods her head. "No false accusations, no initiating anything, no cheating whatsoever, and you'll get a puppy. Your responsibility, you pay for everything, you train it. I don't think Andrew thinks I'm serious either. But he did risk what li- what ti- your life. He did risk your life, both of your lives, and I cant lose you, Darling."

I might get a puppy!! It's so sad that Maralyn and Sophia won't be able to see it. Oh well! A puppy!

"Am I good to go now, Mum?" I ask, unable to sit still. I want to go look at puppies, and read about them and watch them and learn about them! Even if I Mum won't get me one, I'm sure I can get one on my own soon! I'm sure Mum wouldn't mind at all!

She gives a light half laugh, allowing me to go. I quickly get up, ready to bound off when she stops me. "Slow down and be careful, please."

I still rush off, just a bit slower than I normally would have. I need to spend the next 72 hours with puppy stuff! No less, maybe more!

I grab out my phone to text James immediately.

EMMA: James! Mum says I might be able to get a puppy!

While I wait for a response, I set my laptop up at my desk, getting ready to dive into whatever dog related things decide to pop up.

JAMES: cool.

EMMA: Cool, right? Finally, a pet! I'm so excited!

JAMES: cool. Goodnight

He doesn't sound too happy. Maybe he's just jealous of me and my soon to be puppy!

Oh my god, wait what am I going to name her?!

Hamburger, Scarlet, Violet, Diamond, Cheese?! Too many names to choose from, I have to add that to list of things to do!

I CAN ALSO TEACH HER TRICKS!

I let out a quiet excited scream as I dive right into my searching that will most likely keep me awake until early morning hours.
