The song Let It Go plays, waking me from my slumber.
I yawn and turn off my alarm.
Another bright and sunny day!
I look out the window and notice that it's pouring outside.
Well...rain is very lovely. I can work with that!
I get up out of bed, grab my clothes and hit the shower. As I cleanse myself, I sing songs from Disney movies like Let It Go, which is one of my favourite songs. Ever.
I stand there for a few minutes, letting the hot water wash over me and relax my muscles. After I wash up, I shut off the water and step out, wrapping a towel around myself to dry off, then getting dressed.
I leave my hair, not bothering to do anything with it. It's long, wavy, brown with light blond natural highlights throughout it.
Today I choose to wear a bright pink t-shirt with a panda face on it, and some casual ordinary jeans.
Childish.
My style.
He he.
I grab my unicorn backpack and shove my computer carefully into it.
Yes, okay, I like unicorns. And mermaids. So what? They're cute.
I make my way down to the kitchen where I grab a slice of bread, and put it in the toaster to toast.
While it toasts, I go into the cupboard and dig around until I find what I want; an unopened jar of blueberry jam.
The toaster pops, so I carefully grasp the slice and set it on the plate.
While I spread the jam on the bread, I hum to myself.
Mom walks out of her room, studying me. "Hey, Emma? Can I talk to you for a minute?"
I turn around, seeing her drowsy state.
Her eyes have bags under them, and her hair is a complete disaster. "Mum?" I set down the butter knife, take a bite of my creation, and walk over to her. "What is it?"
She touches the top of my head, sadness in her eyes. "Don't listen to Andrew. He may seem like he'll always be there, but come on, has he really been there for you?"
I study her, my heart pounding.
This is really unlike her...
"Mum...?"
She turns her back on me. "Nevermind. Just... get ready for school, Em."
I seriously don't get it. What does Mum have against Andrew?
I watch her walk back into her room, then shut the door.
I continue to get ready for school.
****
As I walk up my school, I glance around, looking for my two best friends.
We've always been best friends, so I know we'll always be best friends.
However, I cannot find them, so I head on inside to my locker to get ready for class.
My footsteps echo in the empty hall as I silently walk, not a single person in sight.
This is very weird. Normally there are people everywhere, and the halls are cramped. Did I come to school on a wrong day?
I check my phone.
Thursday.
"But...where is everyone then? What am I missing?"
I walk up to my locker and get it open, taking off my cute pink unicorn sweater and hang it up. I open my bag and grab my binder, then hang up my bag on one of the hooks.
I quickly check my hair in the mirror, touching up my lip gloss.
I nearly jump when I close my locker, someone hiding behind it.
"Hey. You took forever."
"Huh?! Oh! What are you doing here? You nearly scared me!"
He chuckles, the sound perfectly echoing through the hall.
"James?" I state, staring at him.
He sobers up, staring back. "Yes. That's me."
"Where is everyone?" I ask, tilting my head.
He walks around until he's beside me and puts his hand on my back. "This way," he instructs, guiding me somewhere down the hall.
I follow silently, not sure exactly where we are going.
"Where are we going?"
He laughs again. "Not one for staying quiet, now are you?" He stops walking.
I remain quiet, not answering him.
"Now you're quiet? Ha ha, so unpredictable."
He sighs when I decide not to answer him. "Alright. Everyone is meeting in the gym for an assembly. How come no one told you about that? Don't you have friends?"
My eyebrows knit together. "Of course I have friends! They probably just forgot. Now leave me alone." I huff, walking away from him.
He quickly catches up. "Oh, come on now. Don't be so harsh. I think you'll be seeing a lot more of me, from now on."
Yooo heeeyyyyyyy.
