6 years later

It has been 6 years since Caleb and his family had to move from the Hoenn region to the Sinnoh region.  In those six years Caleb, Absol and the mystery Pokémon he got from his dad have developed an unbreakable bond.

During the six years Caleb delved into the mystery of Mega Evolution, thanks to the research of Kalos's Professor Sycamore. Thanks to this research Caleb had found a key stone when he had helped his dad on a job when he was thirteen.

His dad is an archeologist and Professor Rowan needed his talents to research some fossils of the Sinnoh region. While in Mount Coronet, Caleb had found a hidden cave entrance while mining. Absol barked in joy which alerted his father over to his side. The father and son smiled at each other and started their way inside.

When they entered there were three items sitting on a rock outcrop.  Two were fossils, and the third was a rainbow stone with a dna symbol inside of it.  Caleb's dad went to the fossils while Caleb picked up the stone.

"Is this it?" Caleb asked when the stone started glowing.  Absols stone around his neck started glowing and shining.  Then a sphere of light covered Absol, who barked in surprise.

The sphere soon bursted and Absol appeared with a roar in his mega form.  His white wings unfurled as his long front fur fell over one of his eyes.  His red skin gleaming in the low light of the cave.

Absol admired his new form as Caleb walked over and pet his head softly

Absol admired his new form as Caleb walked over and pet his head softly.

"We finally found a keystone partner." Caleb said and Absol barked which resonated around the cave.

"Son," Caleb turned to his dad who was holding the two fossils, "I want you to choose one, there's the skull fossil that can be revived into Cranidos." He said holding up the fossil that looked like a skull of a Pokémon.

"Then there's the Armor fossil, which can be revived into Shieldon." He said holding up the fossil that actually looked like a shield.

Caleb thought for a second then smiled, "Armor, cranidos sounds cool and strong, but Shieldon would well be a great shield in battle, plus trained right they could resist super effective moves."

Absol barked, "I agree!"

"So do I." His other partners voice sounded from his pokeball. Caleb chuckled at his two partners answers.

His dad smiled at him, "Alright, well you'll get him when you start your journey ok?"

Caleb nodded, he already knew that when his dad had asked him to pick, "Yeah I kinda figured that already."

His dad chuckled and packed the two fossils safely in his bag as the rainbow light appeared and Absol reverted back to his normal form.

Absol barked in relief and rubbed his head against Caleb's leg making him pet his partners head softly.  The father chuckled at his son and then the two of them and Absol made their way back home to Sandgem.

Now three years later it's time for Caleb to finally begin his Pokémon journey.

Unlike a certain anime protagonist he was already up and dressed in his traveling outfit which consisted of a dark blue shortsleeved shirt under a black leather biker vest.  An owl earring in his left ear, a black leather fingerless glove in his right hand with a chain bracelet that held the keystone on his left wrist.  He also wore black cargo jeans with a black belt and black combat boots.

He stood against the light of the window as he looked out with a small smile, "It's finally starting, my journey."  A yawn made him turn away from the window.

'Your up early..' Caleb's second partner said as it stepped out of the shadows.

"How can I not be, I was too excited so I got up early." Caleb said as he looked out of the window again before hearing his partner yawn from the bed.

'What's with all the noise?' Absol asked before blinking open his eyes and staring at Caleb and his other partner.

"No reason, me and Nightmare were just talking." Caleb said with a chuckle as he walked over to his nightstand and picked up the two dusk balls.

"Anyway it's time we start heading to Professor Rowans lab, and behave yourselves, I won't have you scaring the starter that I'm getting." The two Pokémon agreed and then Caleb returned both of them to their pokeballs.

He walked out, but stopped at the door. He took one last look around. "Well I guess this isn't the last time I'll see this place, but I won't be back for a while."

He then turned around and walked downstairs to where his mom and dad were waiting for him. On the kitchen island counter sat his backpack and a luxury ball next to it.

"Is that King?" Caleb asked and his parents chuckled.

"If by King you mean the Shieldon you picked then yes it is." His dad said and handed him the luxury ball.

Caleb smiled and let the Shieldon out and knelt down as it formed. Shieldon looked around at the unfamiliar place before it's eyes landed on Caleb, who smiled softly.

"Hi Shieldon, it must be a shock to be in this time right?"

Shieldon nodded, "Shield!" "Who are you?"

"I'm Caleb and I'm your trainer." He said gently and saw Shieldon tilt his head.

"Trainer? What's that?"

"A trainer is someone who trains a Pokémon like you and makes them even stronger."

Shieldon nodded before realizing that Caleb was actually understanding him. He didn't know what to say and Caleb chuckled.

"I'm special, I can understand Pokémon when they talk, it's how we are talking right now."

Surprisingly Shieldon went with the fact that this human boy, his trainer, could actually speak to him.

"Well then it's nice to meet you Master."

"Ok two things," Caleb said holding up Two fingers, "One don't call me master, any Pokémon on my team is like family, and Second, I'd like to give you the nickname of King if that works for you?"

"Yes it works for me Mas- I mean Caleb." King said and Caleb smiled.

"Awesome, so are you ready to begin our journey together?"

King nodded so Caleb recalled him to his pokeball and stood up. His parents were smiling at him.

"It seems you and King are already friends." His mom said with a smile.

"Yeah, I have a great feeling he's going to be a big help in my journey."

"That's good son, now remember our promise." His dad said and Caleb chuckled.

"Don't reveal that I can talk to Pokémon in front of others or I'll be in danger."

His dad nodded and hugged him softly, "Good luck son, tell Professor Rowan that I'll be by later."

Caleb nodded as he hugged his mom and grabbed his bag, "I will, love you!"

He opened the door and ran out with his parents watching.

"He's going to be a great trainer." His mom said and his dad agreed as they shut the door.
