(Y/N)'s Pov:

Why did I end up here? How come I was one among the few selected for it? Is it worth it? There were around hundreds of questions running through my mind while I kept playing with the food on my tray. The cafeteria was a mess as always, with commotion all around. Just another distraction for me.

"Don't you like bacon? I can have it" said Alex who sat across me. I glared at him for a second before realizing that I haven't even started my lunch while he was done with his second helping.

"Have them. They aren't helping" I said as I passed over my tray to him. That earned me unpleasant looks from my friends who probably thought that I had lost my appetite. I ignored them and looked out through the window only to see a huge crowd out on the grounds. 'They are probably testing their skills' I thought. For few minutes I didn't take my eyes off the crowd, expecting to see a new discovery of talent out there.

I was snapped out my thoughts as Elena placed her hand on my shoulder. "You seem lost. Why is it so? Is it because of...."she trailed off completing her sentence by pointing towards the ground where the people had gathered.

"Probably" I said, my eyes still fixed at the crowd. "I guess it's even more than that" I sighed as I grabbed my tray, which Alex had happily finished and got up.

"You all take your time. I'll go get some fresh air. I'll be right there" I said pointing to the large oak tree in our ground. It's one of the spots where we all gather for a pep talk.

I somehow managed to get past the crowd in the cafeteria and made my way to the ground to sit right under the shade of the tree. There was a cold breeze and it felt good to be out there. The past three days were way too exhausting and I really wanted a break from all. I closed my eyes and tried to relax a bit while my thoughts wandered off to what had happened the past few days.

Yes! I was selected....As one of the capable superhuman to protect this place...along with many other people. A tall, bald man with freckles and a disheartening voice who is supposedly our 'Chief' gathered us here in a place where we could train to showcase our powers. It wasn't a school for us as we all were above the age of 20 and had probably completed schooling long back. But the surroundings, the grounds where we trained, the classroom where we were taught about our powers all seemed like a normal school one could be in. We were formed into a unit three days back, and we were given all facilities, food, dorms, and much more. I was quick in making few friends too. But what they provided us with, was nothing compared to what they asked from us. Powers. I'm not aware of my powers. No one was until they slowly started to see the talents in them. The Chief had said the previous day "It's not you who take time, its the powers. It shows itself when it needs to"

And it was true. Few members had already found out their incredible powers. Few took it as an accomplishment, to taunt the rest who were unable to find their powers. But there was something which caught my attention. A Yokai.

These three days, I had done quite a lot of research in one my favorite spot, the library. It had various books about superpowers, how to use them, how to control oneself while using it, and about the Yokais. There was a huge difference between a normal superhuman and a Yokai. A normal superhuman, also known as Ronens were gifted with a maximum of two powers, one surprisingly superior than the other. Whereas a Yokai is gifted with every power possible in the universe. Yokai's were much more stronger and smarter than Ronens. But they were rare and hard to find. It would take more than a normal lifetime for the Yokai's to learn every power they possess.

This was all I could search for in the books. The Chief and the staffs gave no more explanation about a Yokai than what is written in these books. But somewhere in the corner of my mind, I knew that there was more to it. Probably more than what we should know.
