Ophelia's POV
Vik and I's recent text conversation was still bothering me. Had I really made it that obvious that I have a thing for Jake? Jake could never know about it, it could ruin our whole friendship and the fact that we live together is a very valid reason to not cause any unwanted awkwardness between the two of us.
Sighing in frustration I tossed and turned in my soft, cosy, delicate duvet. Sleep certainly wasn't coming easily on this occasion. Giving up I peel myself from my comforting bed and trudge my way into the kitchen for a glass of milk.
Milk always making me relax I poured a large glass of it before sitting myself on the sofa to drink it, only to find Jake sat there peacefully asleep.
He must've fallen asleep whilst watching Telly, which had switched itself off automatically indicating that Jake has been asleep for sometime. Sighing I sat in the armchair fiddling with the threads of my old, tattered shorts.
Jake stirred in his sleep, eventually opening his eyes and looking around him with confusion lacing his golden brown eyes.
"You ok there" I spoke softly watching him carefully. Jakes eyes shoot up at the sudden sound and eyed me with scrunched eyebrows.
"What are you doing up Phe" Jake spoke his voice laced with sleep.
"I couldn't sleep, I found you in here but you looked peaceful so I left you to sleep" I smiled kindly at him, he only nodded and smiled in appreciation. A comfortable silence came upon us as we both sat pondering our thoughts.
"Hey Phe can I ask you a question?" Jake spoke all of a sudden sitting in an upright position.
"If you really must Jake" I chuckled at him.
"It's just... You and Vik seem pretty close recently, like you guys seem to talk a lot more than you use to, anything going on between you two?" Jake asks, his eyes laced with jealousy and curiosity.
"I really can't believe you just asked me that" I laughed at his accusation and his confused expression.
"What do you mean? It was just a question I'm just curious" Jake shrugged as if it was nothing, his cheeks flushing slightly.
"Well, if you must know, there is absolutely nothing going on between Vik and I, we've been friends for years and nothing has ever happened and nothing ever will" I spoke firmly still amused by his silly question. Jakes cheeks flushed a bright tomato red.
"Oh I see" was all he said before putting us into a not so comfortable silence. I smiled down at my lap at his response a light laugh escaping my lips.
"Whys it funny" Jake spoke irritated slightly.
"Well, even if I did fancy Vik, why would it matter?" I asked Jake, raising an eyebrow in question at him.
"Oh, er, I just wouldn't want you to ruin your friendship with the guys if you and Vik got together and then broke up, you know it'd be awkward" Jake laughed nervously, furrowing his eyebrows and avoiding eye contact.
"Oh I see, well there's nothing to worry about as there is nothing between the two of us" I Frowned slightly at jakes response.
"I think I'm gonna head to bed now, sleep well" I spoke to Jake before hurrying off to my room before Jake could respond.
I couldn't help but think about Jakes words, is that what he thought would happen between the two of us? Why did he get so frustrated by it? Does he really like me? No, he can't, we're best friends. Best friends don't get feelings for each other, I need to forget about them it could never work.
He's right, if we broke up it would just be too awkward, what would we do? We live together for gods sake, its a disaster waiting to happen.
I hear Jakes bedroom door open and then firmly shut, indicating he finally made it to his bed, I sigh heavily making myself comfortable hoping for sleep to come upon me.
Trying to shut my thoughts off I shut my eyes letting darkness flood my mind, slowly dropping off to sleep and letting my dreams take over me.
