I sat in the viewing room for a long time before the other's joined me. Alek really pushed her off onto me since she hit her head. It makes sense but I expected him to take a bit more responsibility of her rather than dumping her on me as if I am dog sitting.
"She's more fragile than she used to be." Lev sat next to me and stared at the sleeping girl. "When I was threatening her earlier. I could see her breaking into a million pieces in front of me. I never imagined her as being weak." Lev's voice seemed disappointed.
"I think she is in shock still. She's hardly ever awake and hasn't had time to process what's happening. I don't think she's fragile. I think she's mourning in a healthier way than any of us can. Then again, she did have the ability to leave and get a solid understanding of emotions. We are all pent-up psychopaths." Max's voice seems bitter, but it is obvious he still cares for her. He is my brother.
"Do you remember when she broke Alek's nose?" I ask. We all burst into laughter. "It was right before she left. She was 12 and so was Max. Lev and I were 14 and Alek turned 15 about a month before. He was all high and mighty about a speech his dad had given him. Alek started trying to tell Kenna about her role as a woman and it made her angry to no end. With one solid swing his nose was sideways. Lev grabbed her and Max and I grabbed Alek. We were afraid he would kill her." After a fit of laughter, we all sighed.
"I was afraid Demetri was going to kill her for touching his son. Demetri was never forgiving." Levi said.
"He wouldn't have touched her then." We all turn to see Alek in the doorway. "She was like a daughter to him and he wanted to make sure that the daughter of his best friend was always safe. He might have made her do the dishes after every meal till she broke down in tears."
We all look at the fragile woman in the other room. She is the definition of broken. I don't think Max will have any trouble getting information out of her. That means I won't have to repair her too much after he's finished. I didn't want to be cruel with her earlier but looking at her gives me pain and remembering is the biggest pain of all.
"We should talk about everything." We all turn to Alek who is now in the room with the door closed. He sits and begins to explain.
"I found her about a year ago. I never did anything because she really doesn't have anything to do with what her father did. However, after digging, that may not be exactly true. The woman we know as Kenna is now Dr. Diana Applegate. She graduated from high school early, then she graduated from college early and got her doctorate in a flash. She's a genius. An Art Genius to be specific. She can tell you if a painting is real of fake by examining it. She can tell you the year something was created and almost nearly everything about the created just by the product."
"Her mother wanted her to be a teacher or a nurse something of little consequence. We all knew that. She seems to have had friends point her in the direction of this occupation very decidedly which makes me suspicious. I think she is being groomed for something bigger. I think it might be something her father was doing while working with another mafia. I know for a fact she has more answers than she let's on. Max, we have to get as many answers as possible as soon as possible before she gets her wits about her again. We are going to have to put in a lot of effort for this one. She's smart and we can't forget that."
"I'll deal with her when she wakes up. I may have to try a few different tactics. I'm not entirely sure physical pain will work for her." Max's face was serious.
"You'll have to bring her food and water. She hasn't eaten since we've taken her a few days ago and I know she won't feel hungry with her concussion." I chime in and Max nods.
"Will you be on stand-by if I need?"
"Always, little brother."
