After Brenton tried to kill Alec for being his little sister, Clara's, soul mate, he stayed in his room to calm down. Jane came to the entrance of Brenton's room and lightly knocked on his door, turned the door knob and opened to see her mate in the armchair with his face in his hands.
Jane turned around and close the door behind her and walked toward her mate who was deep in thought. "I'm sorry I tried to kill your brother, Jane," Brenton whispered into his hands, "I just wanted to protect my little sister from being hurt."
"Brenton," Jane whispered as she sat on the arm of the armchair and wrapped her arms around her mate, "It's going to be okay."
"No, Jane," Brenton lifted his head from his hands, with a hint of frustration, "It's not okay, I nearly killed your brother out of cold blood for being my sister's soul mate."
"You just wanted to protect her," Jane answered, "That is all."
"Just like Alec wanted for you, he just wanted to protect you from me, love."
Jane then nuzzled her face into Brenton's back and cuddled into him from behind. "Brenton, I'm sorry for accusing you of having an affair I didn't know it was your sister that you were thinking about." Jane whispered into her mate's back, "It wasn't fair to you."
Brenton then turned to look at Jane and sighed, "It was upsetting when you did that, Jane, I will tell you that much. You also knew that Emmaline was the only one and I have already made it clear that I do not love her one bit but yet you got so jealous when I said Clara's name that you refused to listen to what I had to say."
"But why didn't you tell me about your sister?" Jane asked, watching her mate's facial expression.
"Because I personally thought she was dead, Jane," Brenton answered, know staring at the ground, "And I didn't want to bring back those terrifying and upsetting memories to life again."
"Brenton," Jane whispered, "You should tell me what took place then, maybe that'll help."
"Jane, please," Brenton pleaded, "please just keep the past in the past for me."
Jane sighed and released her mate and got up from the chair and walked to the door and opened to see Clara standing there with her arms folded staring right at Jane.
"What do you want, Clara?" Brenton groaned, staring right at his sister with annoyance.
"What the hell, brother?" Clara hissed as she moved past Jane and stomped right in front of her brother with her arms folded and her eyes filled with fury, "First off, don't try to kill my mate, second thing, tell Jane about our past or I will."
"No," Brenton said simply, looking up at his little sister with a hint of attitude.
"Why not?" Clara demanded, "What is so bad about telling her our story?"
"Because, Jane and I are already having a bit of a disagreement right now and it is not a good time," Brenton growled.
"Bullshit," Clara muttered as she turned to look at Jane, "What the hell happened now?"
"Well, um, I accused your brother of having more romantic relationships before me," Jane stuttered, something about Clara frightened Jane to her core as Jane watched Clara's reaction.
"Wait what?" Clara hissed in disbelief, " why the hell does that matter now?"
"He was saying your name and I thought he was thinking about another love interest," Jane explained, terrified.
"What the fuck?" Clara hissed, "That is an immature, bullshit thing I have ever heard in my goddamn life. Like, how old are you really? because your acting like a goddamn child."
"Clara," Brenton spoke up, "enough."
"You don't talk to me like that, you bitch," Jane growled, staring down at Clara, "I am your superior."
"And you don't talk to my brother like that, hag," Clara hissed back, "And you are not my superior, you have to get my respect first and how to get that is by growing the fuck up and not get angry with my brother about his past relationship thank you very fucking much." Then Clara stormed out of the room and slammed the door behind her leaving Jane and Brenton alone once more.
"Jane, I am so sorry about Clara," Brenton sighed, "She had no right saying those things to you the way she did. However you are lucky that you are still standing though, Clara could've wiped you out with her powers."
"What happened to her?" Jane whispered, staring at her feet, "I saw the burn marks on her neck."
"She was burnt by an iron burner when she was being trialed for being a witch when we lived in England," Brenton explained as he looked up at Jane, "It is to scare the Devil out of her when she was four years old."
"Oh my god," Jane whispered, as she looked at Brenton wide eyed.
"Her powers were developing around the time and she couldn't control them," Brenton recalled from the memory, "my father, whom was a preacher and is part of the hunter's society at the time, burnt her with a iron burner on the neck in front of the villagers so they wouldn't burn her at a stake at her young age which luckily worked at the time. My father was extremely respected by the villagers because he was the preacher of our village, but I remember my mother being really angry at my father for doing that to Clara since my mother was a witch and knew that Clara couldn't help it. After a month my mother was sent to the Lancaster Castle for her trial and then to Gallows Hill for her execution around 1612 A.D. it broke my father's heart as he became a widower. During my mother's execution I was engaged to Emmaline which was arranged by my father and the pack leader at the time, Dakota and Emmaline's father, so the Hunter's Society would have an alliance with the Lycan pack. At this time I was not part of the Hunter's Society yet since my father wanted me to wait to be wedded to Emmaline to join the society, which Emmaline was against. After the marriage didn't occur, I joined the Hunter's Society in honor of my late father whom unfortunately died by the hands of the Romanian Coven during one of his missions for the society to destroy them, as you can see the Hunter's Society failed with destroying the Romanian Coven. Before I was turned I was sent to observe and attempt to re-introduce our alliance with the Lycan pack which now belong to Dakota Fang, Carter went with me because I simply requested he came with me to help me carry out this task since he also knew Dakota and Emmaline personally." Brenton paused and looked at Jane with the saddest eyes, "Before I went, Clara and I had a huge argument about her arranged marriage with one of the village's wealthier families son. She didn't want to marry him because she didn't want to stay in hiding with her powers from someone that was suppose to accept and support who she was, and Clara told me that her fiance told her that if she turned out to be a witch that he would make sure she would hang from the gallows like her mother, I didn't believe her. This was before the time that there was such a thing of women's rights of choice, women were only seen as property at this time. It was a long night of fighting that when I finally went to sleep Clara ran away to avoid marrying that man because she wanted nothing to do with him." Brenton paused once more and sighed, "When I found that she wasn't in her bed, I didn't go looking for her and immediately went to my mission and that was the last time I saw her."
"Oh my god," Jane said shock, "I am so sorry."
"Don't be," Brenton whispered, "It is in the past."
