I looked into my own eyes in the mirror. I finally saw that my eyes were indeed hazel. I had always imagined them a boring brown. Five years ago when a drunken coworker, leaned into me across the bar, breathing a pale ale into my face, and said, "Your eyes are green and glow in the sun like pools," I shrugged it off. I was not prepared to take a compliment from anyone—I wasn't even sure if it was a compliment.
Today, though, I see it—my eyes are a lush green.
"Are you ready, babe?"
Keeping my eyes on the mirror, I shifted them to the face in the background of the reflection. Every single time I looked at that face, a smile crept across my lips. I've outdone myself, I thought to myself.
That face belonged to my husband. My eyes immediately settled on his mouth. His full lips were slightly parted, his teeth bright, and he looked like he was on the verge of another statement.
I guess he noticed that I was watching his mouth. He licked his lips and smiled at my reflection. I always had a visceral reaction to any movement his mouth made.
He came closer to me until he was able to wrap his arms around me, pressing me to his body. He rested his chin atop my head, his smile wide, gazing into my eyes in the mirror.
Initially I stiffened—his first touch always seemed foreign to me. I almost had to convince myself that he was really mine to be touched by.
I leaned back into his barrel chested, firm body. His arms were strong, enveloping me in his warmth and safety. His hands were large and clasped my hands at my waist. His deep blue eyes, bore through me, immediately making me suck in a breath. He knew he had an effect on me—and even after all these years, the effect hadn't dulled one bit.
"Do we have to go?" I asked him quietly. My eyes flickered to his jaw—the sharp line begged me to drag my tongue across his five o clock shadow. I could think of nothing more than putting my mouth on him.
He laughed at me, "It's just the grocery store. We have to go sooner or later." He squeezed my body in his arms and nuzzled his chin into my neck. I twisted myself around in his grasp to face him, pulling him closer and stepping back to the mirror.
I covered his lips with mine. My hands floated up to his hair, tugging at his dark curls. I kissed him harder. I was desperate for him.
He kissed me back. Matching my fervor, he squeezed me closer, running his hands roughly across my body. Every synapse in my body shivered—he was a drug that my body needed to survive at this point.
He grabbed at every part of my body. As he ran his fingers through my hair, he harshly pulled at a fist full of my hair, leaving my neck exposed to be assailed by his mouth. My body reacted to him, heating up and immediately getting wet. "Oh my god..." I whispered as he dug his teeth into my neck. I felt his tongue make its way across my clavicle. His hands were on my breasts, my ass, my clit...had I not been pinned to the mirror by his weight, I surely would have melted into the floor, pooling at his feet.
He made a deep, guttural sound as he kissed me deeper, his tongue fighting my own, one hand still in my hair, pulling harder, forcing my face up to his.
My body was on fire. He was touching me, pulling me, licking me—it wasn't enough. I wanted even more.
"Tell me," I breathed to him.
He pulled my hair harder, scraping my neck with his teeth harder.
"Please, tell me," I begged him.
He slowed his pace, pulling his face away from my body, bringing his eyes to meet mine. His dark curls were disheveled from my need.
"I need you, Sarah," he whispered to me.
I momentarily closed my eyes. Those words were a panacea to me. I let out a breath, and opened my eyes to find his.
"You do?" I whispered back.
He let go of my hair. Holding my face in his hands, he leaned close to me.
"Yes," he told me.
My life has always resembled a drama. The roller coaster of my forty five years on this planet has brought me here—in the arms of this man. The self doubt that creeps into my mind, gets washed away by the blue oceans of his eyes.
