Part 16: We're Pregnant

The week that I had cleared my schedule to run off to LA with Henry, I canceled my appointment to have my IUD replaced. It was an early appointment—my IUD wasn't set to expire until later that year.

I obviously forgot to reschedule it.

We didn't realize that I was pregnant for a few weeks after this night. I was actually home alone in London—Henry was on his press tour, Max was back in Chicago for summer break with his father. I kept finding myself taking really long naps, and being unable to shake the groggy feeling afterwards. I became concerned when I suddenly had to throw up at the smell of the protein shake I had been drinking post workout for years.

I ordered a few pregnancy tests for delivery—not wanting to be accidentally seen by paparazzi purchasing them. I anxiously awaited their arrival. I was still holding tele-health appointments with my clients and lifting weights at home, slipping out of the house daily to swim laps at a pool on Silchester Road. Other than that, I was constantly sleeping.

The first test was positive. So, I took the additional three tests that I had ordered. All four tests were positive. I was so happy and petrified at the same time.

When Henry called me that night at eight o'clock, it was four o'clock the next morning in Tokyo where he was waking up to start his cardio training. I was groggy on the phone, and trying my hardest to keep the emotions out of my voice. He knew something was off.

"Sarah," he said quietly. My name from his lips, immediately made me close my eyes and smile. "What's wrong?" he asked me.

"Nothing, baby," I reassured him.

"Sarah," he insisted. "Tell me."

I hesitated. I had never lied to him, and I definitely didn't want to start with this important news. "Can we talk when you get home?" I asked him. I knew what the answer was going to be to this one. He immediately started face timing me.

I answered the call, hiding half of my face with my bed sheet.

"Sarah, you're in bed so early?" he asked me. "What's going on?" he insisted again. "Are you okay?"

"I'm pregnant."

Silence.

His blue eyes were wide, and his face paled a bit. He was still and quiet for a beat. His beautiful mouth broke into a wide grin. I'd never seen him smile like this before. His cheeks flushed, and his mouth dropped open, the smile still strong.

"Say it again, Sarah," he said, his smile widening.

I smiled back at him, and closed my eyes. "I'm pregnant, Henry."

We both smiled at each other—like fools. He hopped up onto the bed in his suite and jumped about in what appeared to be no clothing, laughing. I laughed with him.

"Oh, Sarah, I love you so much."

"I love you, too, baby," I told him, beginning to cry and laugh all at once. He laughed and jumped and appeared to run around his room, riling Kal up to bark and run after him.

"Have you told anyone?" he asked me.

"No, just you, of course. I think it's too soon to tell people, don't you? I must only be a few weeks pregnant."  I thought about it for a moment, "You told me you were going to get me pregnant that night in Oahu and you did."

He laughed, howling to himself. "I am a man of my word."

"I can't wait to be with you, baby," I told him, through my laughter and tears. "We can tell everyone together."

"Absolutely," he told me.

I'd never seen him so happy before. It was quite a change from my previous two pregnancies—the tears shed both times were of fear. This was frightening—but I trusted him and knew in my fiber that he would never do anything to allow any of us to hurt or be scared.

He beamed at me through the screen. "Fuck!" he yelled, laughing. Kal barked in response.

"I cannot wait to fuck you when I get home," he told me, grinning in that naughty way that he did. I grew wet from the comment and squirmed in delight.

"Baby, I'm going to fuck you senseless the second I lay my eyes on you," I told him, my voice low and sexy, my eyes dark, while I wiped the tears from my face.

"One more week," he reassured me. We both laughed and smiled at each other. "This is really fucking fantastic," he said, laughing—his elation uncontainable.

I continued to grin at him. "Love looks good on you, baby," I told him. I winked at him, "everything looks good on you."

"I want you on me," he told me. "Why don't you come out to me," he said, his blue eyes sparkling at me.

"You'll be home in only a week, baby," I said. But I wanted to go to him, I didn't want to wait another day. I held his eye, his smile still wide. "I'll arrange a flight now."
