Annabeth ran over to Reyna. After their earlier conversation, she grew to trust the daughter of Bellona even more. More than the rest of the demigods, at least. Reyna looked up, eyebrows creasing with concern as she saw Annabeth's worried expression. "Reyna," Annabeth breathed, "Percy has been missing for hours. I've been searching around camp, no one has seen him. Reyna, something is seriously wrong."
"Oh Gods," Reyna said, "Let's go talk to Chiron so he can authorize a search party. We'll find him Annabeth, don't worry. Just... trust me."
Annabeth nodded softly and the two took off towards the Big House. After quickly filling Chiron and Mr. D in, they awaited their response. "My, this is quite the predicament," Chiron shook his head, clearly concerned. "We must find Perseus, especially considering how vulnerable he currently is."
"I don't know," Mr. D rolled his eyes, slumping back on the sofa, "We finally have that sea brat off our hands. He's caused us enough trouble. If you ask me, we should all be grateful."
"Grateful..." Annabeth said slowly, trying to comprehend what the wine god had just said, "Grateful?! Do you have any idea how many times Percy has saved your ungrateful ass from practically inevitable destruction?! All you do is sit back and lazily watch! Lost lives are nothing to be grateful about! Ever! We need to find Percy before he joins that category! If you won't let me, I'm finding him myself and nothing is stopping me!"
Everyone stared at Annabeth in shock at her sudden outburst, the daughter of Athena breathing heavily.
After a moment of silence, Mr. D rolled his eyes, absentmindedly waving his hand. "Fine."
"Fine?" Annabeth blinked. It was much easier than she expected.
"Fine," Dionysus repeated, "Find Peter-"
"Percy."
"-I don't care, none of this affects me. Do what you want but if you die it's not my fault. Now leave my sight before I turn you all into porpoises."
"Good luck, young ones," Chiron bowed his head, "May the odds be ever in your favor."
Annabeth nodded vigorously, her and Reyna taking off. "I'll get Leo and Nico," Reyna said.
"I'll get Hazel, Frank, and Grover," Annabeth said. "Meet at the border of the forest in ten minutes." The two girls took off in the opposite directions to find the demigods.
As directed, the seven demigods all met up at the forest edge. "So Percy's gone missing," Grover said, anxiously shifting his weight from one foot to the other, a nervous bleat escaping from his mouth, "We have to go find him!"
"Ananbeth and I will search east, Leo and Nico go southeast, and Hazel, Frank, and Grover will head northeast. Everyone stick together, prepare... prepare for the worst," Reyna's tone turned solemn. Everyone looked down, frowns spreading throughout them.
Annabeth sucked in deeply, trying to regain herself. "Okay. Let's go find Percy."
-
Annabeth and Reyna had been searching for two hours, if not more, desperately trying to find the son of Poseidon. Reyna had tragically lost hope, but she wouldn't dare say that to Annabeth. Ananbeth wasn't going to give up, not on Percy. She never would.
The sun was beginning to set though and Reyna began to grow wary. "Ananbeth, I'm so sorry, but-"
"Looking for me?"
The two girls' eyes widened and the whipped around to see a smug looking Percy leaned against a tree. The two girls were so delighted they didn't even notice his sudden change of appearance. He wore a loose fitting black t-shirt, black skinny jeans, and black combat boots. His hair was messy and untamed, something that was common, but his sea green eyes has red flecks in them.
Annabeth rushed towards him, embracing him in a tight hug, but gasped as she was pushed away. She stared at him in shock, not an ounce of remorse or anything of the sorts on his face, just a deep scowl.
"Per-Percy?" Ananbeth choked out.
"A-Annabeth?" Percy mocked in a high, whiny voice, rolling his eyes. "Gods, you're so annoying. That will never change."
"Gods?" Reyna said in confusion.
"Uh, yeah?" Percy tilted his head.
Reyna clenched her fists. "Percy, what the hell is wrong with you?"
"I could ask you the same thing," Percy laughed. "What's wrong with you? Come on, you can't tell me you're not tired of the sickening 'do-gooder act.' Serving the gods who have done nothing to repay you back. You're all just pawns. Not to mention how incredibly boring it is."
Annabeth was understandably confused. He remembered the gods, he remembered her and Reyna, that much was obvious, but it was as if he had the... wrong memories. Percy obviously wasn't evil or cruel, nothing like how he was acting now. Annabeth knew he was aware of being a pawn of the gods, but she knew he would never betray them. He did as they ordered for his friends, not for the gods. She thought that would never change. She knew it wouldn't.
This wasn't Percy. Someone did this to him. That was the only possible explanation.
"Percy, please, just listen," Annabeth said, reaching out to him, but quickly pulled back when he unsheathed Riptide, pointing the sword at her.
"Listen to what? Your pathetic cries for mercy?" Percy rolled his eyes. "I've heard enough already."
"Per-" Annabeth couldn't finish as Percy suddenly slashed his blade against Annabeth's chest, sending her sprawling to the ground. The whole ordeal happened within a second, shocking Reyna.
Percy just smirked cruelly though, looking down at her. "I wanted to kill you but Medea said to wait. We have much more instore for you, just you wait."
Percy dashed off and Reyna was tempted to follow after him, but there were much more pressing matters at hand.
She had to get Annabeth to the infirmary.
