Arat sighed and wiped off her forehead as she loaded the truck with the last crate of canned food. She hopped in the back and knocked on the truck twice, to let the driver know they were good to go. She sighed and laid down in the back of the truck as it started moving. Today was a busy day. First she had to teach the kids combat class in the morning, then she went hunting and killed two deer for her community to have for dinner, then she had to go trade with another community and exchange some weapons for crates of canned goods. She was so glad she decided to not patrol today, she felt like she could pass out any minute now. Even though each day was tiring, she didn't complain.
Her mother and father were the leaders of her community, Evermore. Evermore was one of the stronger communities. Even though they had less people, they were all soldiers. Everyone knew how to fight, how to shoot a gun, how to kill, hell even the kids knew how to get some serious hits in. After all, it was Arat's job to teach them.
Arat is seventeen years old. The apocalypse started when she was only four years old. She has no memory of life before everything went to shit. Her parents never failed to tell her stories though. They talked about how they met in junior high, how they went to prom together, how they got married in front of all their friends and family, and any other pleasant memories from better times. They also always talked about her older sister, Cleopatra. Cleo was ten years older than Arat. She survived the apocalypse for about four years before she was chased away from the group by walkers, and never seen again. When people went on a hunt for her body, they found nothing but her necklace that she got for her thirteenth birthday, and a bracelet that she made from scratch. They waited about a month before she was finally pronounced dead. Even though her parents were heartbroken, they still had a lot of love for Arat, and swore to protect her with their lives.
Arat remembers her older sister. She would teach her how to use weapons, put her hair in braids, even help her with her schoolwork whenever she had the time. They were insanely close, but she still wishes she could've had more time with her sister before she was killed.
Arat was pulled out of her thoughts when she heard the familiar noises of her community. She hopped out of the truck and unlocked the gates so the truck could get in. Once she had closed back the gates she heard someone calling her.
"Arat!"
She turned around to be greeted by the sight of her mother, Kathy.
"Hey mom" she said as she gave her a quick hug.
Her mom then pulled back from the hug and held her daughter's face in her hands. "You've been gone for a while baby, did everything go as planned?"
Arat nodded. "Everything went well mom. It only took some extra time because I had to load the truck by myself."
Kathy raised an eyebrow. "Jonah didn't help?"
Arat shook her head. "No he didn't, but only because I told him not to. I needed someone to watch out for walkers for me."
Kathy's expression softened. "Oh, well in that case it's fine. I thought he had my baby loading up all those crates because he was being lazy."
Arat giggled. "I promise he tried to help mom, and also I'm stronger than everyone else here!"
"Is that so?" Arat's father walked up, joining the conversation.
Kathy chuckled as Arat gulped a bit.
"Alright maybe not everyone..." She admitted.
Baashir laughed as he ruffled his daughter's hair.
Kathy gave her husband a fake stern look and pointed a finger at him. "Ima need you to stop making fun of my little girl."
Baashir smiled down at his wife. "How about you make me?"
