Chimera (noun)- a thing that is hoped or wished for but in fact is illusory or impossible to achieve.
"It's nice to meet you Arat." April said with a kind smile, while helping the young woman to her feet.
"Uh, where are we exactly?" Arat asked while her eyes darted all around the penthouse. She knew her weapons weren't on her body, so she looked around the room to try and locate them, just in case something happens.
"We're in my home. This is where I live." she answered.
Arat chuckled. "I know that, but where exactly are we?"
April giggled. "Oh, we're in New York. Specifically lower Manhattan."
Arat went pale. "Manhattan? How the hell did I get in Manhattan? And hasn't this place been overrun for years now?"
April's face scrunched in confusion. "Overrun? What do you mean?" she was getting a bit concerned for this girl, she might have a concussion, or maybe she had a bad dream?
"By walkers." Arat clarified. This place was fully owned by walkers. Nobody has gotten in or out alive in years.
"I have no clue what you're talking about Arat, are you feeling ok?" April asked, getting pretty freaked out by what she was saying.
"You know, the things that people become when they die, undead, eat people alive, but you can kill em with a headshot?" Arat asked with a raised eyebrow
"Zombies?" April asked finally getting what she was hinting at.
"Uh...if that's what you call them." Arat muttered out, a bit weirded out by the odd word.
April sighed. "I'm gonna have to take you to my friend tomorrow, maybe he'll have some answers to this. How about you shower and borrow some of my clothes? I have a guest room you could sleep in, and tomorrow we could go get you your own clothes."
Arat was shocked at Aprils generosity. "You really don't have to do that."
"I don't mind, I promise. You seem really young to be by yourself though, how old are you?"
Arat looked down at the fact that yes, she was definitely on her own. She was all by herself in this weird community where they call walkers zombies and are totally weirded out at the mentioning of them, she decided not to mope around though. Her parents taught her to be strong, and that's exactly what she was gonna do.
"I'm seventeen." She answered with a confident smile on her face.
April frowned a bit. This girl was just a kid and it already seemed like she had been through so much already.
"You're just a kid huh?" April smirked
Arat rolled her eyes. "Maybe, but I could still kick ass."
April chuckled. Arat was actually a really charming girl. "Follow me, I'll lead you to the guest room."
Arat got up from her seated position and followed April out of the room. She then entered a fairly big bedroom, with a queen sized bed and an entire bookcase filled to the brim, with a vase of flowers on the nightstand.
"The bathroom is in that door to your right. Help yourself to whatever you need in there. I'm gonna try and get some sleep, I'll come get you in the morning when it's time to leave." April said as she pointed everything out.
Arat nodded. "Alright got it, thank you for all of this."
April smiled. "Don't worry about it."
She then left the room, leaving Arat standing there on her own. She then made the quick decision to go into the bathroom and take a much needed shower. She stripped from her clothing and threw the pile on the floor. She took her long hair out of it's ponytail and turned on the water to the shower. After the temperature was warm, she finally stepped in and sighed at the sensation of the water pouring onto her. She took the dove body wash and lathered it all over her body, not missing a single spot. She then put shampoo all over her long brown hair and gently massaged the suds into her scalp. Once she was all rinsed off and shaved she turned off the water and stepped out of the shower. She then dried off, put her hair into a braid so it could dry well, and threw on a hoodie and shorts along with some brand new undergarments that April had left her.
She then crawled into the bed and for the first time in years, fully relaxed. She didn't have her gun right next to her, and since she technically wasn't a soldier anymore, she didn't have to be fully clothed while sleeping. Although she was still sad about losing her parents, she still had to be realistic about everything. She has no clue where she is and is still very confused about this entire situation. The woman she's with calls walkers, zombies and seemed very confused when she had mentioned New York being a dangerous place to be. She looked out the window and saw that there was not one walker in sight. The entire city was still fully lit and people walked down the streets not having a care in the world. None of them had weapons of any kind. Maybe they were concealed? Or maybe they were just safe. Maybe she finally didn't have to worry about survival. Maybe this was like the old world that her parents had told her about. With jobs and money and people. Maybe finally she could live the life she's always wanted to live.
She's always wanted to get a job, get some money, get a car and a house, and maybe even get married and have kids. But, her entire life was filled with nothing but reassurance that her dream was never going to become a reality. Now, maybe she could do all those things. She won't have to live in fear anymore, and that's exactly what she was going to do. Even if she has to do it alone.
