====================================

Thunder roared as the sky painted a dull color of grey. The wind blew, bending the branches of the leafless, angular trees. Dead leaves and twigs crunched beneath your feet. Rain began to pour out of the dark clouds. You pulled out a black umbrella to cover you and your 4 year-old son. The rain beat against your umbrella, causing your son to walk closer to you.

"Mommy? Where are we going?" Your son asked. He tugged at your jeans.

"We're going to see daddy," you answered, smiling, as a tiny drop of tear slid down your cheeks. Your son gave you a quick nod, understanding the situation. Yes, even though your little boy was only 4 years old, he had a sharp mind. You both strolled down the grave yard, and finally, reached his grave. (S/n) threw his hood on, and ran to his father's grave. That jacket was far too large on him, yet he insisted to wear it. The wings of freedom was imprinted on it. That jacket- it belonged to him.

You remembered. You remembered your first date with him. Simple, yet pleasant. He picked you up at 4pm, and you both drove to the park. For what? A picnic. A picnic under the big, cherry blossom.

It was spring, and the weather was just right. You both sat down and began to unpack. First, he rolled out the gargantuan, (f/c) blanket. Next, you took out food.

"Omg! How did you know?" you asked, shocked, as you looked into the basket. There is was. Your favorite food. (f/f). You licked your lips in delight as you pulled out your favorite dish.

"Oh, I have my ways," He chuckled, causing you to blush furiously. You both ate, and talked. Everything was pleasant.

You soon felt your eyelids grow heavy, and you leaned on his shoulders.

"(y/n)! Come on! Look! This is what I wanted to show you..." He said, pointing his fingers at the sky. You hesitantly got up, and looked at what he was pointing to. You gasped. It was beautiful. The sunset. It felt as if god had taken a paintbrush and painted the sky with red, orange, and yellow. Birds above you chirped, and the scenery was absolutely maleficent. You both watched as the big, yellow sun dipped into the horizon.

You smiled a bit as you remember that one memorable time. Tears pricked your eyes as you slowly closed them.

"Hey, come on. Stop crying," he said, walking closer to you. You couldn't understand why. You were the one arguing with him, yet he still came to comfort you.

2 am

It was 2am. Why? Why did he sacrifice his sleep time just to comfort you?

The moon was dimly lit; the stars poked its head into the dark sky. You sat on the windowsill, head buried in his chest, crying softly.

"S-sorry...I-I...Sor-ry..I'm so sorry," you cried harder, regretting everything you did.

"It's alright now..." he murmured, gently stroking your hair. All of a sudden, he pulled you into a hug. You gasped, and then hugged him back.

He's so warm...

You melted against his touch. Warm. Cozy. Passionate.

Once again, tears began to trickle down your cheeks. Oh, how you wished you could receive his hugs once more. They were gone...along with him.

"Alright! I'll give you ten minutes! Say what you want to say, then we are leaving!" The commander bellowed, leaving you and your husband alone.

"No...Please...D-don't go..." you cried, hugging him closer to you.

"I-I have to. For the country. For you. For the baby." He murmured, pulling away slightly, as you both peered down at your stomach. You were married to him now, and was currently carrying his baby.

"I-I don't know what I'll do without you...Please...come back. Promise to come back," you said, starting into his turquoise eyes.

He responded with a slight nod, and looked away.

"I-I ca-no. I-I promise," He said, colliding his lips with yours. You melted at his touch, kissing back with the same force and passion.

"HEY! WE ARE LEAVING! LET'S GO!" The commander boomed, startling the two of you. Your husband saluted.

"Yes, sir!"

A sad look lingered in his eyes, as he hugged you- sharing the final moments together. He pecked you on the lips again, before slowly walking away. Tears formed in his eyes.

"P-please...come...back..." you cried, collapsing onto the group.

A year later...

You watched as the survivors walk solemnly down the road. Everyone lost something, be it legs, arms, etc. White bandages were visible. It wasn't fair. You held your baby close to your chest desperately trying to find your husband. You looked everywhere.

No...t-this can't be real. He promised! He promised!!

You went as far as asking the commander where your husband was.

"That young man? He was a brave solider indeed." The Commander gaze never met your eye.

Then it hit you.

Your husband he wasn't going to make it...

You wouldn't take it. Tears flowed down your face, blurring your vision. You grasped tighter onto your baby, and then he, too, started to cry. The world is so unfair.

We were going to live happily was a family...why?

It's been 4 years. 4 years since his death. You couldn't hold your tears any longer. They rolled down your cheeks like a river.

"Mommy? Why are you crying?" (S/n) asked, looking at you innocently.

"Nothing. It's nothing," you replied, wiping your tears away with the back of your hands. Now, the rain had almost stopped, and the sky was starting to clear up. The smell of the afternoon dew was present, and the world around you looked so peaceful. You watched as your son carefully inspected the grave, shifting his position once in a while.

"Hey (s/n)? I think we should head back now,"

"Yeah. I think so too, mommy," (s/n) replied, running towards you. You both held hands and began to walk away from the grave. Before you left, you turned around and re-read the words inscripted on the tombstone:
